I would have to say the War in Vietnam might fit the bill. The American people might have been fed the swill that it was a war against the proliferation of "godless communists" but in fact, like most modern warfare, it was economic in origin. Huh?
If you do a little research you will discover that Vietnam is the world's largest producer of Tungsten and Tin. Both are vital in the production of steel. Now tell me. What would U.S. Steel do without a secure supply of Tungsten and Tin? Further...
What will the U.S. do now without a secure supply of oil? Get my point? It's been said before and I'll say it again, "Follow the money trail."

The Vietnam war was more about ideology (capitalism vs. communism) than religion.....The war in the Falklands was about territory.....Operation: Desert Storm had more to do with the free flow of oil in the Middle East....
Religion isn't the SOLE cause of wars -- just the most absurd ("My imaginary friend can beat up your imaginary friend!")
