Childbirth is what is called a “peak experience” and no woman should dull it with medication. I promise it will be the most thrilling and joyful experience of your life.

There are a lot of scare stories out there and some women seem to take pleasure in frightening new moms-to-be. Pay no attention to them. You are not an invalid and childbirth is not a disease. Labor is not painful - just a kind of squeezing and tightening as your cervix dilates. Continue with your normal activities, pausing every 10-15 minutes to smile when you feel a contraction. When the contractions are 5 minutes apart, it’s time to go to the hospital. Once the cervix is fully dilated, there will probably be a few painful minutes (called “transition”); it doesn’t last long and you can put up with anything as long as you know it’s only temporary. Any pain relief will also affect your baby, and you don’t want to dope up your newborn!

Now you move into actual labor, the work of pushing the baby out. This is the most pleasurable part of the experience, like one extended orgasm. No woman should be denied this! To experience these moments again, I would have had a dozen children - if I didn’t have to raise them afterwards!

The cause of the pain that many women report is fear. It acts on the muscles that work during labor, tightening them so they cannot do their job properly. If you are AFRAID that it's going to hurt, chances are it will - but it doesn't have to. A must-read book is Grantly Dick-Read’s “Childbirth Without Fear.” If your library doesn’t have it, order it through Interlibrary Loan. It will change your outlook on childbirth.

It hurts!!! they can give you pain medicine to take the edge off, put it doesn't work very well. I have two kids and am pregnant with my third. with the first two I had epidurals, the first one I felt a little pressure, but with the second one my labor was only 4 hours, I was induced, so contractions were harder. and the doctor forgot to prescribe the epidural, so by the time I finally got it, I dilated so fast the epidural didn't have time to set in. It helped with contractions, but I felt everything below the belly!!! IT HURTS!!!!!!!!!

i had my first child with no pain help at all. i had an easy delivery and it was not too bad. my second child was very painful and i had an epidural and it was well worth it. the pains with my first child felt like the worst menstrual cramps and a lot of pressure. my second child, before the epidural, felt like i was being pulled apart and was very painful.

i always give the same advise; if you can try it at first, do so. if you can't do it, get the epidural.

It hurts, but it wasn't something that I couldn't take. Contractions just felt like cramping. At the end they hurt a little more. I didn't get an episotomy and my baby tore me up down there, when they were stitching me, now that hurt!!! I really enjoyed all the process without the meds. My water broke at 8:00 p.m. and my baby was born at 10:30 p.m. it was fast.

By the way, my baby will be 1 yr. old tomorrow! It's nice to remember that day.

contractions are the worst part of having a baby. Get an epidural if you can and don't wait till the last minute. Contractions feel like a the biggest cramp you have ever had except they get worse and worse until you pop the kid out.

Feels like you are taking the biggest watermelon sized crap of your life. Bunged up and the need to defecate BIGTIME, push, push, nothings coming, burn bad, need to come (need to rub the hoo hoo to relieve the symptoms), whole vagina exploding effecting the muscles, rip, torch and burn.

Seems like timing is all to do with luck not mother-nature. If you relax (meditate to believe you arent there, its easier but the tension is still the same)...if you dont...you just yell more and it makes no difference.

Then they need to stitch you up or squish your belly to expel the afterbirth. But you dont give a stuff because that baby is REAL and she/he is looking at you. Its eyes, its head, its features...its tiny warm body covered in goo.....its yours...all yours and you grew that and didnt even KNOW it. You knew...but you didnt know it would be a real person....but there it is...a part of you but alone now and still wanting to be, a part of you, as its never known any different. Pain goes away because you found a new love interest.

As Keepsonda... above said...pushing out a baby can feel very orgasmic BUT you have to put that in contetxt to rooting a man with a 12 inch, fist wide penis....not the average Joe...so if you ever wanted to feel that...during labor is the time to enjoy.

Its ur choice to suffer with terrible pain or to enjoy the wonderful miracle of giving birth.

It hurts like hell. I was in labor for 22 hrs, no epidural because it wouldn't stay in, and in the end I had to get a c-section because she wouldn't come out. It was definitely worth it and no, you don't forget the pain. Unreal
