After 7 years items fall off of your credit report. Don't pay it, if you make a payment on it it can become a new item again and hurt your credit score. If collectors contact you, do not communicate with them...ask that they not contact you any longer. Do not even admit to that having been your debt. Even doing that could make it active again.

Wow, you lucky son of a *****! Sounds like you got out of paying some student loans back! Which I think is brilliant, by the way. They make more money off our loans than we most likely earn ourselves in salary with the college degree!

Trust me, they have not forgotten that you owe them I suggest that you start paying them back ASAP, because if you do not, they will start to garnish your income tax refunds until you are paid up on the amount that you borrowed. Also, if your monthly payments are high, try consolidating your loans. If you are in school still, you need to file a deferment.
