Not something like: there will be war! but something more solid like: human body consists of 95% liquid....

I think a lot of people here are missing the point here. If god wanted to tell us that the earth is spherical, the simplest way of saying it would be 'THE EARTH IS SPHERICAL', not 'It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the Inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:'
Everything I've read so far can be interpreted in many different ways.

Job 26:7 (King James Version)
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon NOTHING.

Scientists did know that space is not some kind of ether until modern times, but the Bible did knew it.

Isaiah 40:22 (King James Version)

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

In this verse the Hebrew word that is translated "circle" actually was "sphere". Thus the Bible indicated the Earth was a sphere before scientists figured it out.

This is mainly from the article from http://www.quran-islam.org/universe.htm

1.“Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, and We made every living thing of water? Will they not then believe?” (The Quran: 21:30)
- Big Bang theory

2."Then He took hold of the sky when it was smoke." 41:11
-the universe at the early stage in the form of hot gas (smoke)

3."and the heavens we created with might (power) and we are expanding it."51:47 – universe is expanding theory

4.“And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit. (21:33)

“If there were therein gods beside Alla, then verily both the havens and the earth had been disordered. (21:22)

5."…as if it were a brilliant star……..whose oil (fuel) is well lit, even no fire touches it." 24:35

- mention the sun as a star, it’s fuel which is from a reaction which not from combustion (fire) which is accurate of what goes on in a star ( nuclear reaction)

6."Blessed is He who made constellations in the sky and placed there in a lamp, and a moon giving light." 25:61

"It is He who made the sun to light up (the sky) and the moon that is lit." 10:5

-planets do not emit light on their own – it is reflected light.

7.`At the time of the Quran (7th century), it was still believed that all the stars in the sky, including our sun, were eternal and are made of a material that never fades or decays.

No one was really aware of the nature of the reactions that took place inside stars for that was to be 20th century atomic theory territory but that (as mentioned before) was mentioned in the Quran. These atomic reactions would take place inside a star for a finite time and then the star would eventually run out of energy when it has used up all its resources. When that stage is reached, a star like our sun will undergo a series of drastic changes. First, it will expand to become a red giant. The nearest planet, Mercury, would be swallowed up and the intense heat given off by the sun in this red giant stage would cause all the seas and oceans on earth to boil over and evaporate, signalling the end of life on earth. Eventually, the star would start to collapse and lose its lustre and end up as a white dwarf. Here, the Quran uses the very accurate scientific words`:

-"when stars lose their lustre" 77:8

-"He has ordained the sun and the moon, each one runs (it's course) for an appointed time." 13:2
Surah, 81 in its opening verse, describes the end of time as follows:

-"When the sun is rounded (swelling like a ball)"

-"When the stars have collapsed"

-"When the oceans boil over in a swell" 81:6

8.The modern accepted figure for the age of the universe is a little bit more than 18 billion (thousand million) years.

"the angels and the spirit ascend unto Him in a day, the measure of which was fifty thousand years." 70:

"…a day relative to your God is equivalent to a thousand years of your count." 22:47

With a few simple equations:
If 1 day (for God) = 1000 years (for man)
1 year (for God) = 1000 x 365 (for man)
= 365,000 years
50,000 years (for God) = 365,000 x 50,000 (for man)
= 18.25 billion!

9.Not until the 1920's did astronomers discover that our galaxy was only one of millions of others. Only then did astronomers start to appreciate the actual size of the universe. Astronomers are today debating the issue whether our universe is the only one in existence. The idea of multiple universes is closely linked with the Black Hole concept

-"Have you not seen how God has created seven skies (universes) one above the other?" 71:15

- "And we have decorated the lowest heaven (universe) with lanterns (stars)." 41:12

Hi there.
The Bible has lots to say about the nation of Israel. For example, Ezekiel 39:25 - 29 (dated as being written about 590 - 570 BC) speaks of how God would gather the scattered people of Israel from around the world and bring them back to their own land. It is an historical fact that the state of Israel was re - established in 1945 following many years of the Jews not having a homeland of their own. May God bless you.

A book on any other subject can ultimately only tell you the "What" about life... that the atomic weight of hydrogen is 1, that the atmosphere on earth is mostly nitrogen.

A Holy book can give you the "Why".
When you understand the "Why", the "What" takes on meaning.

Without the "Why", life is meaningless, and all efforts to change a way of "What is" to another form of "What is" is pointless. In order for that effort to make sense, you need to know "What Should Be". But you only can do that.... if you know the "Why" that drives it.

There is incredible evidence of prophecy in the Bible. One of the more interesting is in the book of Daniel, in which several passages refer to the rebuilding of the Israeli state, but what is amazing is that the passages, if calculated according to a solar year of 360 days in a year, gives the exact number of years between the exile of the Jews by the Romans, to the foundation of the New Israeli state in 1948. Amazing!!

You are thinking of the Jewish prophets. The thing about prophecy, you don't know what it means until after it has happened. This is what kept Judaism alive during the terrible Babylonian captivity. They knew they would be going home.
New Testament prophecy likewise encourages us today to keep on, knowing the eventual victory of goodness.

yes definately...the Qur'an has many scientific facts which have only been proved in recent times. The Quran was revealed over 1400 years ago, yet has facts that no-one during that time could have known, modern technology has now proved many of these facts.
