Last night, I was sitting in my chair in the living room and my son came down the stairs and said in a strange, slow voice, (and I don't want to use his sister's real name so I'll call her "Jenny") Hey Dad... Jenny's rose is in bloom..." I said, "Huh?!" And he just turned his head and looked at me over his sunglasses for a second and walked off.

What the ****!?!

i think he might be talking about her "garden" if you know what i mean.

try getting him new sunglasses, its probably a hint... maybe his eyes are really sensitive even inside, you should take him to an optometrist, that should be your first concern

So, how did you respond when he walked off? Is this a behavior that you've encouraged by acceptance? Communication is absolutely everything with teens. If you don't pursue it I guarantee they're not going to. It's so easy as a parent just to not invest in correcting behaviors that aggrevate or show a lack of respect but in doing so you only compound the problems you and they will face well into the future. Next time and all the times to come you're just going to have to consistently let him know that when you ask a question you expect an answer and its not going to be as easy as just walking off or ignoring you. If you invest in the relationship and don't reward or accept attitudes and disrespect he'll come around and you'll both be richer for it.

It sounds like maybe Dad might've had a talk with him previously and he came to tell him "the code" for whatever it was. Possibly.

Also, often the best way to find out if it's a current popular phrase with kids, is to JUST ASK ONE OF HIS FRIENDS what the phrase means and see what they say or think it might mean. It could be out of a movie or t.v. show or music video.

Sounds like he saw her breasts or something but I don't know, you have to investigate, and I do think its worth looking into.

Sit him down and talk to him.. It sounds like your daughter is having her period and your son maybe between the ages of 8 to 12. let him know that it's inappropriate to say these things. And if continues he will be punished.

He is just trying to see if he can irritate you. It sounds like he is purposely trying to be weird. Next time he does it just say something like, "Oh, that's nice." then go back to what you are doing. He will stop if he's not getting a reaction from you. Unless of course you have some concerns he's doing something inappropriate, in which case you need to learn to be sneaky and catch him at whatever he is up to.

I hate to tell you but I am afraid I believe your son is dabbling in some serious drugs, depending on his age, could be psychedelic, maybe just taking prescription drugs. Sometimes barbiturates can have the same effects as you described. How old is he?

I'm thinking it's from a movie...kinda sounds like it. Kids are little freaks don't you know? I'm sure he's just messing around and trying to be funny.
I wouldn't worry about it. If he starts talking in tongues, sit him down for a nice chat. :)

Your son is trying to get your attention. When you were sitting in your chair, what were you doing? Were you watching TV or reading? Pay attention to your child for God's Sake.

I am guessing you might know what. It is pretty obvious. If you are serious, then you need to have a very good talk with your son. What exactly does he mean by that? And so on.

I'd be pinning him against the wall until he explained himself, and why he's so worried about his sister's rose being in bloom!
