For your information, I regularly simmer fresh stringbeans in a crockpot for 24 or more hours and them come out just fine. Destroying the value? Folks, we Americans overnutition as it is. I'm just dealing with the taste, OK?

Oh wow that sounds delicious. :D I might have to try that tonight!

Garlic does sound good with that. A little salt and pepper, too. But you know what would really kick this up? Some baby red potatoes. Yum!!

Potatos - Green beans and potatoes are a wonderful combination. You would not let your potatoes cook for 24 hours though - they would be mush. Frankly - I don't think I would cook the green beans for 24 hours - you may end up with green bean mush. Maybe cook the beans & potatos about 8 to 9 hours on low.

Throw some new potatoes in there!! Yum! What time is dinner? lol! It is similar to what I do, but I use a half a piece of salt pork, instead of bacon, but the result is the same.

Cooking them for that long has probably turned the beans into mush and probably destroyed most of their nutritional content as well. But, save the mixture and add other veggie/meat ingredients and do not cook any longer than necessary and you should be able to save the pot.

its just going to turn to mush if you leave it in for 24 hours maybe three hours at the most, but no onions use garlic instead

This from the kid who answered a post about Rachael Ray by writing "Is this the full extent of your life and your issues?.......Sad, if it is"

Oh yeah, string beans are a LOT more socially relevant.....

First of all, cooking string beans for that long will ruin their nutritional value. You should cook them for a much shorter period of time and consider adding garlic, real bacon (not bacon bits), and a slice or two of fresh lemon.

Might be good. I'm not a huge fan of string beans...

I'd add carrots.
