For those of you who don't believe in evolution, do you not believe in the flu vaccine? We have a new flu vaccine every year because the influenza virus evolves every year to counter the previous years vaccine. At least that is what scientists say. What are your thoughts? I don't care about your thoughts on human evolution, just the scientific term which means a change in a species over time.

Dont' say that this is adaptation, or mutation, which isn't evolution. Actaully, mutation is found within the definition of evolution. And adaptation is not what is going on here. Evolution is defined as the change (genetically) in a species over time. The influenza virus changes (gentially) over time.

Adaption, natural selection, survival of the fittest etc over time causes so much change as to make the population change from the species it was to another. I think the evidence is pretty strong for this. The only point against it is the mantra of the Creationists but the only evidence they have is a book and to believe it they have to ignore so much hard evidence in fossils, living creatures and our DNA. I'll go with the science every time.

Anyone who doesn't believe in the concept of evolution is ignorant to the facts. No, I don't believe that humans evolved from apes, but it is foolish to say that organisms don't evolve over time to their environment. We can see evidence of this just in our own generation that this occurs, and there is evidence that it has always occurred.
We see it every day, whether it is the flu virus evolving to become resistant to our vaccines, or whether it is a group of people who live at higher altitudes, making their blood absorb oxygen at higher levels.

You've been givin an answer about how they distinguish micro from macro-evolution. But medicine in general is based on the same sciences as Evolutionary Science (biology, physics, chemistry, genetics, etc.), but modern medicine only has about 1/5 of the evidience to support it that Evolutionary Science does. Evolutionary Science is about 75% backed by evidence, while modern medicine is less than 15% (JAMA, April 1996). So do creationsist go to the doctor?

Billy, yes, mutation IS evolution. It is the catalyst for change.
Adaptation does not involve the make-up of an organism changing. THAT is evolution.
Bacteria (an organism) also evolve - we are creating super bacteria as they become resistant to anti-septics.
Evolution is a fact. It is the mechanism and explanation of how it works that is a theory.

When I studied evolution in college they talked about two types of evolution: macro-evolution and micro-evolution. There was a lot of strong and obvious evidence for micro-evolution or within-species evolution, of which one example is the flu viruses that change from year to year. Darwin's theory of evolution being the explanation for origin of the species was based on micro-evolution, as evidenced by finches surviving with shorter and fatter beaks as their food source changed to seeds on the ground. There was no evidence for macro-evolution which is change from one species to another as in having a species of deer grow longer and longer necks so that they eventually become a new species called giraffes. Some fossils seem to be intermediate versions of new species but there is no solid evidence of a new species being created by evolution (macro-evolution).

I do NOT "believe" in Evolution.
I ACCEPT and ACKNOWLEDGE the facts evident and the observations that show Evolution to be true, beyond a mere hypothesis.
Micro-evolution PROVES macro-evolution. One simply cannot exist without the other. Theists who accept the former yet reject the latter, just show their ignorance of science and the natural laws to all of those who bothered to educate themselves to obvious fact.
"Belief" is for religion.

I do believe in evolution. In addition to your point, I'd like to add that any theists argue that evolution is only a theory. This is a weak argument. How many people are aware that germ THEORY is still used to explain the causes of disease?

We will evolve, as to survive we will have to. I'm not sure when it will start or has it started already but we've become immune to many things over the years and I'm sure evolution has a lot to do with it.

See, they believe in evolution except when it makes them question their religious beliefs. Then suddenly it's a satanic evil system.
Creationists aren't the most honest bunch around.
