body mass index (BMI) is a rough estimate of the relative weight per height of a person. it is used to estimate whether weight is a risk factor for health esp. in conditions such as high blood pressure or other cardiovascular diseases.

BMI = weight in kilograms / height in meters squared

over 30 is considered obese and optimal is between 18 and 24.9
