At the airport 'casa de cambio'. After that use the ATM machines.

Using a credit card in stores and restaurants is not a smart idea. Get cash and use it

Spending dollars will give you a lousy exchange rate

Credit card and ATM give the best rates. When I was in Puerto Vallarta, I just used my ATM card in their machines and it worked fine. The machines gives you pesos. When you get home and look at your statement it shows the conversion and deduction from your account in US dollars.

The Airport is not the best place coming in. There are a couple of small ones in town that offer better deals. Walk around town a bit and you'll see there are different ones with different exchange rates. It is always better to exchange your money so you don't get ripped off.

Most places in touristy Mexico accept US dollars. If you get there and find that you need pesos in cash, I'd get it converted at the hotel, although they and anywhere will charge a ridiculous conversion rate. If you use your credit card, your bank will assess a currency conversion fee.

Forget all those answers, if your walking around and see a store like with several guys with uzzie's that is the place called dealing black, black market, if you don't see one ask the bell man at any hotel or a bartender, they all know. They want the dollars and will give the most in return. Same whee anyplace, Dominica Republic, even Cambodia!

The airport does that, but it's better it use a travelers check gift card or re-loadable visa debit card.
