In 2006 they can throw rocks at us and call us names. They could kidnap, torture and behead our citizens living and working there.
In a few years, unchecked, they will be able to toss thermonuclear bombs our major cities.

Iran has visions of becoming the leader of the islamic world, and islam hates the Jew unto destruction. They may attack Israel, which could well set that region on fire, and bring other world powers onto the scene. It is generally accepted that Israel has the wherewithal to essentially destroy every population center in the middle east, and their propensity to react with overwhelming force is well known. We do not and cannot control events in that area, we only serve as a modulating influence that for the moment is keeping the lid on a confrontation that has been brewing for nearly sixty years.
China due to it's astounding economic growth now has reason to want stability in the oil center of the world, and Russia is openly supportive of Iran, so it appears the stage is being set for something that could dwarf the present conflict. The other probability of course is the almost certain attacks on our population centers that would follow by terrorists who may have some pretty terrible weapons at their disposal now. There are no easy answers to what's developing over there, and our withdrawal would only have the effect of taking the finger out of the leaking dyke. Serious times are ahead.

Iran can shut off it's oil exports and can destroy every refinery in the Persian gulf. It has 2 types of cruise missile to carry this out with and one of those is a Chinese version of a tomahawk missile. They also have 3 kilo class subs which are modern diesel boats. These boats fire cruise missiles and can easily stop all tanker traffic in the gulf. Then there is the trouble there agents could cause around the world I believe this will only be nuisance terrorism but our response to it will suck up needed resources and make life miserable in general. If the Iranian army attacks we can destroy it but I'm willing to bet while we are busy destroying the Iranian army the insurgents in Iraq will be hitting our supply lines in a big way. All sorts of damage can be done for someone with an imagination and the Iranians are proving to be very imaginative.

Iranian forces are more experienced and more determined than the Iraqi forces. The country is more united than Iraq. The majority Shiite population is also the one in government. They have been on the recieving end for long and are very much ready and willing to shed their bloods, if the need be, for their beloved country. They may not have nuclear capabilities for now, but it would be worse than Iraq. It would also expose US to serious repercusions from angered Muslims worldwide and hence more Muslim suicide bombers.
If the US should attack Iran today, there is the likelyhood that the US would defeat them through massive air bombardment. But what happens after that. The Iranian leaders would still stay-put except there is a ground war to dislodge and overthrough the leaders. Any ground war this time around again in the middle east would be deverstating to US. Your economy, which is fully dependent on oil could shrink further (you are yet to start tapping your oil resources in Alaska) downward, your political relationship with countries with Muslim dominant populations would be threatened and this would give economies like China and Japan the lifetime opportunity to finally seal its economic relationships with countries that you earlier dominate economically but are tired of you dictating to them, politically.
Infact America would definately be very very sorry for doing so.

Go to your world map... look at the Straits of Hormuz. Are you there ?? OKAY... almost ALL the Arabian Gulf's oil production flows out that narrow lil strait... and ALL of the north side of that strait belongs to Iran.
Now back in 1995, China sold to Iran a copy of the French Exocet missile. (C-802) Actually, over the years... several THOUSAND copies of that missile. They also sold them the larger Silkworm. These are anti-ship missiles.
Now the C-802 can be mounted on a standard full-size pickup truck... easy to hide, move, shoot and reload.
The Iranian Navy also has numerous Chinese build Missile boats.
Iran will CLOSE the Straits of Hormuz, shut off the oil supply (note that Venezuala, an oil producer, has allied itself with Iran), and without oil, the US economy will grind to a halt.

They fought a war with Iraq for many years without winning. The US wiped out the Iraq army in a few weeks. The Iranians would suffer a similar fate. I do not think we should invade Iran, but if they refuse to stop their nuclear bomb building then we should start the Shock and Awe bombing campaign and continue it till they say UNCLE.

If we did it right and let the Military do their jobs,( For Once !!) we could put to rest some of this BS from all these other countries that think we are weak.
If set off one our strongest nukes as a test somewhere close to Iran to let them actually see what one of these things can do, knowing that they never have seen a blast like that, call it a war game of our own, I think some of these mouthy leaders would see things alittle differently.

Iran would block the straits of Hormuz, which daily carry 40% of the worlds oil.
The oil barons of the US would probably want this to happen to justify oil prices of over $100 per barrel, and an acute shortage of oil. This way they can profit enormously in the same way that they have by eliminating Iraq's oil flow.

They would have to appeal to the world and condemn the attacks on there homeland. Other than that they could not really defend themselves against attacks by the US. Their military is along the same lines as Iraq's and you saw how fast that was taken out. They do have better air defense system in place but nothing that would hinder our fighters and cruise missiles from doing damage. I honestly do not think the US would do a full scale invasion like we did with Iraq. It would be more of strategic bombing and taking key Infrastructure that assists in the making of nuclear weapons.
