"A new law, under which Elsmere police are targeting vehicles with out-of-state tags, amounts to racial profiling, according to critics."

They check this by a database saying whether someone has been in town long enough that they need to register. I have always had to reregister my car when I moved, how is this racial profiling? In fact wouldn't it be racist if the only ones who DIDN'T have to do it were from a particular race? (That is assuming Hispanic were a race which is an issue I still have problems with.)

"Margaret Quijano, property manager of Fenwick Park Apartments, said she's worried she will lose 50 percent or more of her tenants now that police have begun enforcing the law. Fenwick Park tenants said many undocumented immigrants register their vehicles in the name of a friend or family member with a Pennsylvania address."

Even if this is clearly to determine fraudulent registration for illegals, why is that wrong?

"Police Chief Neal Strauss said the new ordinance can help police with investigations.

"If there's a traffic accident or hit and run, and that person lives here but we run their tags and the address goes back to New York or Pennsylvania, we have no way to follow up," he said.

"Issues have been brought up that this is profiling," Strauss added. "But from my point of view, it's just a metal plate on a car, and I don't care who you are, you need to get it taken care of."

Sounds right to me. What do you think?

This is probably going to turn into Reagan's 'nowhere to run, nowhere to hide' before it's over with, it's kind of stunning, when you think of the mere scope and scale of the whole business, of how many people have just walked right into our country and then decided that they'll just do whatever, and if the cops should say or do anything to the contrary, it's automatically racism etc.
It isn't. It's enforcing the law, and it's 2 decades overdue.

Cruz Rodriguez, vice president of the Hispanic advocacy group Voices without Borders, said he believes the law is racially motivated.

"The problem with this is that the city government is trying to have its own immigration laws," he said. "They're targeting Hispanics, turning them into criminals."

You would have to be mentally retarded to not understand the concept. They are already illegal due to the fraudulent registrations. That takes a lot of gall to say they are being racially profiled. They are being Criminally Profiled as they should be,just how far does this repeated insults and total disregard of our US laws does it take to see the inequities in this statement made by this idiot, from this two bit organization for criminals.

Agree, it's just a piece of metal on a car. Besides, isn't that the point of having license plates on your vehicle anyway. To allow the police to track a vehicles owner if necessary.
I think the only people who are worrying about this is the people doing illegal activities.
If you don't break the law, which 99.9% of us don't, you should have nothing to worry about.

No, it's not. Every state does this to a greater or lesser degree, and especially in college communities. Out-of-state students are allowed to keep their home state plates -- until they're out of school. But many try to keep the out-of-state registration, especially if the cost and insurance coverage is less in their home state (Mass vs. NH, for instance).

It's got nothing to do with race. It has to do with state and community revenues. If illegals are breaking this law, its just once more way to find them.

We hire our law enforcement to see that laws are adhered to. We also hire them to help "ensure our safety"...

Racial Profiling is another target word used by illegals and their supporters. We need to refuse to cave to the politically correct and simply allow our police, deputies and agents the latitude to do their job.

Again, will criminals use this one as a loop hole to get out of punishment?

Only if we let them.

This has nothing to do with racial profiling. This is standard for police to cruise parking lots for out of state tags. Even I got a warning ticket in the state of Florida because I hadn't registered my car yet. They got me in the company parking lot.
Racial profiling indeed............its not always about racism.

I agree with you. But I refuse to get a city sticker. Haven't had one in 5 years but register my plates every year.

Nothing to do with race, it's about making money like most laws enforced by cops.
