Some areas have animal rights laws that allow police officers to legally smash your car window and seize the dog. I'd say you got off easy with a summons.
And NO, you can't do what you want with your pet if it violates the law.

If depends. Do you live out of your car? What is the weather like. If your dog is in no harm by being in the car they won't give you a citation. If it is cool enough to have the windows all up make sure you have a clearly visible water bowl and blanket for him to sleep on. If it is hot and you are leaving him in the car with the windows up, shame on you, he could die. If you must, there are a couple of products out there that act as air conditioners that work on your car battery power. You can also place a sticker with the product on your window so they know there is air conditioning. Even if the weather is good there are dangers in leaving your dog in the car. For example someone could break in and steal your dog, and your stuff. Or, what will most likely happen, someone will bash the window open to "save" your dog, and you will end up paying for it, and another citation.

Keep it up and you will not have a dog any more. You dog can die of heat stroke, with in minutes, on a warm day, with windows rolled up the temperature in your cars shoots up 10 to 15 degrees and thats only in a few minutes (so imagine how ever long it takes to play bingo...... I'm surprized your dog isn't dead already.
This is cruel, a known fact that many animals die every year this way. Its your responsiblity to keep that dog safe, healthy and if you can't do that, you don't need an animal.
Would you leave a child inside a car with the windows rolled up? And the child doesn't have monds of furn covering his entire body.
You can't fight it, you are being a negligent owner, your lucky they haven't taken your dog away...... bet if you get a couple more they will.
Look if you have to leave your dog in a car, esp. on a hot day, crack the window, and leave your car running with the A/C on. Have a spare key in the ignition and lock your doors. If you don't have A/C roll your windows down, or don't take your dog with you on a hot day. Its not about them being anal, they are just trying to prevent damage or death to you dog.

HELLO!! Do you realize that if you leave a dog in the car with the windows rolled up in summer heat that it could DIE?! You should have more then a citation. Do the dog a favor, leave it at home when you go play bingo.

your city likely had laws on the books that define humane treatment of animals. Leaving a dog in a car while attending bingo is a bit of a stupid move on your part. If I am going to take my lab somewhere and leave him the vehicle I crack the windows.. If I plan on being away from my vehicle for more then a few minutes I leave him at home. Laws are on the books to protect people and animals from other peoples' stupidity.
You my friend are a dumb a*s.. Common sense should be a requirement of pet ownership.. You have none.

doesn't matter if it is your dog or not, you can not leave the dog in any car with the windows up or down for that long. i would have called on you too. that is just wrong. if you plan to go in somewhere and be gone that long, then don't bring your dog. if you think that bringing him is paying attention to him, then you are wrong, that is being cruel. next time leave him at home when you go out. you won't be able to fight this because any judge that takes this case will not let you off the hook. but if you keep doing what you are doing and taking him places and leaving him in the car you will not have a dog any longer.

Would you leave your child or aged gramma in the car while you went to Bingo? No, I dont think so. Temps in cars can reach 170 degrees, would you like to be left in that kind of temp without being able to get out, roll down a window or have a drink of water? Your sad and shouldnt have a dog.

Here's what you do. You go in your car, park it in the sun, turn it off, roll the windows down to where you would normally have them for the dog and see how long you are comfortable. Then, take your findings to court, if you don't end up in the hospital with heat stroke.
I actually did this years ago. I was curious as to what it felt like.
I lasted 10 minutes before I couldn't stand it any longer.
Now, think about your dog and the only way it lets off heat is through breathing. Oh, yeah, breathing also makes the car HOTTER...
You do this, and you will have complete understanding, my friend.
