Seems like the biggest racket going nowadays. A man once said, freely you have received therefore freely give.

I only know of one church, where the offering is used to support the site and activities. The preachers are not paid there.

Okay. So what you're saying is there should be a guy in charge of running the entire church - paperwork, licensing, bill paying, charity handling, funerals, hospital visits, question answering, sermon writing & delivering, counseling anyone in the congregation - what comes out to be more than a 40 hour a week job, and he shouldn't get paid. He's supposed to drop his life at the drop of a hat if one of us is sick or dies.

So, how does his family live? How do they buy groceries? How do they pay their mortgage? Do they get health insurance?

God Himself made sure the priests of His temple were compensated. Why would we do less for the few people kind enough to give up their lives on a regular basis to help save ours?

Isn't everyone else who works paid a salary? A good and true Pastor should not be denied a salary because of the ill behaviors of others, should they? Certainly not.

You are right in that some Pastors abuse tithes and offerings of it's members, and it's a sad shame, but there IS a Mighty Judge and they ARE reaping and sowing! We don't even have to spend our precious time worrying over the faults of other men...trust in the Lord and worship Him where He placed you and allow Him to reveal to you WHY He placed you there, and focus on being the best whatever He called YOU to be! ...and be prayerful for others and the things that you see that are NOT right. Intercede!

Most Pastors have resigned from their carnal jobs to fully work in the ministry. It is their only source of income. My Pastor, for example, sold his thriving business to work full time in the ministry without knowing if the ministry would strive or fail. Just answering the Lord's direction. He has also dedicated Himself to a fixed percentage for a salary, which was determined by leadership in business meetings. He wanted a lower one than the one they insisted upon. (I don't know what that percentage is, but I'm sure it's a meek one!)

Anyway, if you are a saved man/woman of God, life in the Christian walk is so much more attainable and so much more clear if you ignore all the racket (they are distractions) and focus on what "thus sayeth the Lord".

God bless you!

Probably the same salary as Jesus was paid. It should be noted that the greatest of all did not touch the purse and left it to others. When a preacher starts to worry about money they become one of us poor sinners. Most churches are simply businesses, and should be taxed accordingly. Jesus washed the disciples feet, now preachers steal your shoes.

Of course they should! What happens when you collect tithes and offerings is some of it goes to the church bills, some to outreach(hopefully), and a portion to pay the pastor's salory. And they do need it to live just like we need a salary. Pastors do more than preach once or twice a week in most churches. There is much to administrate and run in a church. Right now we have a small church and my pastors can not take a salary so they have to work a secular job. But it is very hard on them. Eventually they will take a salary. But I am not in agreement with pastors who misuse church funds for themselves.

Absolutely! They should receive a salary so they can live comfortably just like any other person who imparts knowledge to the public for a living.

Just like with almost any other business venture, there are people who are in the business of "preaching" only to make money.

There are many qualified preachers who paid lots of money for their education. Bible college is not always free.

No. Members of churchs should pick up the slack more, serve each other, know the gospel and share it. Just because it is easier to put money in a collection plate than give meaningful service in your church, doesn't mean it is the way it is supposed to be.

Preachers should not be paid to do the work of the Lord and parishioners should not leave all of the work to a single preacher--they should all share in it. Jesus did not tell the apostles/disciples to sit back and listen to him. He sent them from town to town and door to door to tell people about God's kingdom.

Im not even christian (am I deist in my opinion) ...

I think preachers should be paid , though by the congregation.

If u mean tv, they are already paid too much since some tv preachers get a large part of the proceeds.

I'm not a fan of preachers, but if someone wants to pay them, there's no harm in that.
If you had a regular job and preached part-time, you might not need to be paid, but if it's your full time job and you don't have another source of income you will need the money.
By "preachers", do you mean a specific religion? I think Catholic priests get paid.

THe preecher dedicates all his time to studying the Bible, helping his church(people), and visiting people. That does not leave any time to go out and work a job so that his family can eat.
In the OT all the people would bring 10% of everything to the temple, some of that was sacrifieced, but the rest of it was for the priests to live off.
It is the church's responsibility to provide for their pastor and pay him a descent salary.
