Over the centuries, gout was most often seen in wealthy people because it can be caused by overindulgence in alcohol, high-calorie foods, and "rich" foods like meats (including organ meats such as liver), gravies, shellfish, sardines, mackerel and anchovies. All of these can increase the level of uric acid in the body. Prevention is always the best cure, and avoiding excessive consumption of alcohol and these foods can help prevent gout.
Additional dietary measures that can help prevent gout attacks include drinking plenty of water, avoiding sugar (which can increase uric-acid production), staying clear of high-protein diets (although moderate protein ingestion is advised), and eating a diet high in complex carbohydrates and vegetables. Cherries, which have been found to lower uric-acid levels, are also recommended.
Other natural methods can also help prevent or treat gout attacks. Folic acid blocks an enzyme responsible for the formation of uric acid, and omega-3 fats found in fish can decrease the inflammation associated with gout. In addition, natural anti-inflammatories such as bromelain (derived from pineapples) can help during gout attacks.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

First of all, forget the past and be optimistic about the FUTURE! Make a plan and a reachable goal (1 month, 3 month, and 6 month).
- Cut out all food which are high in fat, high in sugar, contain refined/enriched starches. (ie any sort of processed food including chips, cookies, fast food, soda)
- Cut out any food/beverage which will cause flare-up and have colchecine in hand whenever he feels an attack looming.
- Be sure to include fibrous foods (ie fruit, leafy green vegetables), "clean" protein (ie chicken breast, fish, lean red meat), and "clean" carbs (ie fruit, whole wheat bread, brown rice, stick to the natural stuff)
- Limit portions at meal time and try to eat more often in the day (ie 5 meals / day).
- Figure out your BMR, subtract 500 cals, and try to stay in that region.
Exercisewise, there is always something that you can do, whether it be situps, pushups, dumbells.
Gout plain sucks when you're in attack mode ... is he on allopurinol and colchecine?

To lose weight, a person has to reduce the calorie intake by some amount by modifying their diet. A diet without sufficient nutrients will only increase the appetite of the person trying to lose weight. Since most people combine a diet with an exercise plan, additional nutrients are required for the growth of muscles required to increase the metabolic rate required for long term weight loss. If you are a man with a uterus, you should alert the media and make alot of money... as you would be the first in history (that's not transgender that is). You need to make an appointment with a GP, and yes, you will need a prostate exam.
