You are most likely experiencing panic attacks. Does it feel like you have trouble catching a good breath of air as you lay down to sleep? Noticing your heart rate and feeling like you are going to die are definite signs of a panic attack. The numbness in your arms, or sometimes lips, means that you are breathing too much and getting too much oxygen and not releasing the carbon dioxide, maybe to compensate for feeling like your heart isn't doing it's job: it's called hyperventilating and breathing into a paper bag can be helpful.
This will probably pass without any medication -- do beware of medicines a doctor may prescribe for anxiety: they are habit-forming and can cause their own set of problems, but I would check with a physician just to make sure everything is fine with your heart and your lungs.
When I experienced this several years ago, I started a walking program and worked my way up to walking a marathon. Then I was so tired at night, that I no longer felt these feelings. Also, I got in better shape physically. I never had a repeat of the panic attacks but they sure were a unpleasant experience that I'll never forget.
Good luck.

My daughter and niece had the same symptoms. The doctor called it Social/Anxiety Disorder--my daughter is taking Zoloft and it has helped alot. She is not as worried about every little thing.
She was also obsessive compulsive and the medicine helped that. She could n't sleep at night for worrying so she was so grouchy during the day that no one wanted to be around her. We can so tell when she doesn't taker her medicine. My only regret is that I waited so long and let her suffer before we got help. We found all this out when she had an anxiety attack and couldn't breathe and went to the hospital. Her heart felt like it was racing and she was afraid of dying.

The obvious problem would be pregnancy, but I experienced something similar when I was eating a lot of carrageenan and MSG products. The soy derived proteins built up in my brain and nervous system to the point of causing night time hallucinations and extreme migraines. I also had some panic attacks and depression from the soy intolerance. The main key is migraines, do you have bad headaches? It's kind of a shot in the dark, but take a serious look at what you're eating. Changing my diet has changed my life, but again, it looks like pregnancy is the major cause from what you're describing.

Rest assure you are not going crazy, I'm thinking you could be lacking something in your diet and it is causing you to worry, become stressed. If I could suggest for you to see your doctor and ask him/her if you may be tested for a vitamine defficiency such as B12. I take 500mg twice a day for similar feelings except I get a racing heart. I find it works quite well, but give it time to get into your system to see the results.

It sounds like stress and the more you think about it the more you will notice those symptoms, which will stress you out even more so try to relax a little and maybe you should see a doctor about this problem. I know...take a Xanax (sounds like zanax) they are wonderful and will help you rest a little, you wont be so worried. Go see a doctor and see what they say!

It sounds like anxiety. Are you getting enough exercise? I have to exercise a lot to curb anxiety. Also, are you eating a balanced diet and getting enough Omega-3 fatty acids? I would try exercising and making some dietary changes immediately. You should also see a doctor immediately. It could be your thyroid (and can be easily treated). You could also be pregnant...the hormonal changes can make you feel very anxious at times.

You could be having anxiety attacks. Sometimes called panic attacks. I have lived with them all my life. You need to go to a physician and find out for sure. A light anti-depressant may help but you need a doctor's opinion first.

It is more than likely due to hormonal changes. A visit to see a general physician is in order.
