ISLAM legitimises the primitive and pervert practice of POLIGAMY. Why?

Muslim men are allowed to have 4 women simultaneously. Why women are not allowed to have the same privilege?
Why this nomadic, pervert and irrelevant practice is still followed in the name of religion? Is this a bait for conversion?

I don't approve of reviling any religion on this forum.

The practise of polygamy may have evolved as a social necessity in the war ravaged medieval times when large casualties routinely occur as a result of many wars.

However, there is no justification for this to remain in the modern era. Reports suggest that only socially and economically backward Muslims practise it.

This system should have been long done away with. May be, it has helped as some sort of bonus for neo-Muslims.

Actually, more women than men convert to Islam. Ironically, the conversion rate is about 4 women per every 1 man.

Islam does not encourage polygamy, but does allow it, only on the condition that a man is equally just and generous with all his wives. If you understood the responsibilities of a Muslim man toward his wife, you would understand why polygamy is actually rarely practiced by Muslims. The man must provide seperate but equal accomodations for all his wives, and must accomodate them at the level that they are used to or at his own level, whichever is higher.

Women can't have 4 husbands because it is counter to human nature and common sense. If she had 4 husbands, what then? Would they all be required to support her at an equal level? How is that possible? In Islam, a man is wholly responsible for seeing to the needs of his children too. If the woman had 4 husbands, how would she know which man is responsible for which children?

Polygamy was practised all over the world and in all religions, until very recently.

To day in western culture a person is not prosecuted for having relation ship with many women at same time if he is not married to any one of them.

But if same type of relation a man has with many women and if he get married to more then one of them at same time he would be prosecuted even when he is supporting them and raising a joint family.

I am not talking of people who marry with disregards to the age.
Nor I am defending or sympathising with polygamist. This is one of the many facts of life as I see it.

There are cultures in places on this earth where a woman is as good as married to all the brothers in the family, to stay clear of the local laws only older brother or one of the brothers gets legally married, others just enjoy the marital right,and the live in a joint harmonious family and support each other in a joint family unit, no one forces any one. It is just a culture that most people from out side world will not understand and frauen up on for no good reason.

One of the news show even had full hour special on it.

The Arabic world at the time was torn by war (similar to now with less sophisticated weapons). Many men died leaving widows who could not earn nough alone to take care of their children. This created a need for a social welfare system, and polygamy provided that system, just like in Judaism and many other older cultures. According to the Quran, the first wife has to give permission for the husband to take other wives (though this may not be the actual practice).

Now, given modern means of movement and healthcare, etc., this practice may be outdated, much like science has made the religions that promote it outdated.

There was a time when it was important for humans to increase thier own population, and frankly, it's be benificial for men to have access to several women for that purpose. My guess is that this practice is anchient, and simply has failed to disappear in modern culture. Of course, monogamy has disenfranchised women as much anyway, as all sex-relations between men and women have seemed, no matter the culture, to have historically existed to the detriment of the female. This of course, is not true for ALL cultures, but it as least true of the muslim, and western worlds.

It's spelled POLYGAMY, by the way. Ignorant pomp. I'll be your second boyfriend though, if you're willing. Just kidding.

actually when islam was being promoted at that time close 300 c.e. men were very strong in society ,although it was considering the fact that mohammed himself married a 40 yr old widow, so to pull people away from pagan worship , muhammed came up with the concept of islam and actually reahshed a lot of teachings of tora and bible( you can actually find the similarity) and additioanlly gave them the incentive of having multiple wives , muhammed was smart man , he waited for the right time when he had enough men 10k+ then he attacked mecca , so I would call him an oppurtunist and this religion was promoted using the right oppurtunity........
