You did right to give him a bath. Continue washing him with water instead of wiping him with wipes. Doesn't have to be a full bath, just a dunk in the sink. Let him stay naked for as long as you can (put a plastic sheet or bag on the floor) to get air to the area and let it dry out. When you do have to put a diaper back on him, use the cream but sparingly. Creams and powders can cause/make worse by holding moisture against his skin. If it is really bad, see if you have any Neosporin ointment or Dermaplast spray and use that instead. You need to let the parents know that the diaper rash is bad and can get infected. They need to call their pediatrician.

My daughter has a problem with diaper rashes. The doctor has told me that when her rashes are so bad that she has trouble sitting or bathing, that when chancing the diaper dont use the baby wipes, but use a wet washcloth. The alcohol in the wipes hurts them more. If at all possible, let him be diaperless for a little while and keep the area dry. I've had success with Triple Paste and Bordrux (sp?) Butt Paste and also the Gold Bonds Diaper Powder.

If the rash has sores it could be a yeast infection. At that point bring those sores to the parents attention so they can make a doctors appointment.

Good Luck.

I would let him keep the diaper off for a little while. Then when I put the diaper on him I would just use the diaper rash cream because hes not your son. And when the parents came back to pick him up I would let them know and I would tell them they really need to take care of this. You don't want him to break out from anything so I would stay with the cream!!! I feel so bad for his lil butt! Also G-L too you! I really hope his butt gets better!

I've had a few bouts of bad diaper rash myself. Here's what I did... and it worked every time.
Most important... change diapers often. As soon as it's wet or poopy, it must be changed.
With each diaper change... you'll need to wash his behind with luke warm water and very mild soap like dove or aveeno. If you have long nails, take care not to rub it against his skin. Take off all jewelry to minimize scraping. Give the area a good wash and lots of rinsing. Be especially careful to get in the folds as diaper rash creams don't come off easily in these areas.
Pat dry the entire area... no rubbing... and let him air dry for at least 15 minutes. Put him on the bed and play with him while spreading his legs so air gets to all areas.
Finally apply an thin layer of ointment to the effected areas and diaper very loosely.
If you do this every single diaper change... it will start looking much better within 48 hours.
If there's bleeding, I would recommend contacting the pediatrician just in case. Also take into consideration if he has eaten something that did not agree with him. Food was a culprit for me one time. Too much spice I think.
What about his mother... why isn't she taking care of this before it gets so out of control? Good luck... poor little kid!

ok... first thing you need to do is make sure the babys butt is clean and if they have any petrolium jelly left over from hospital thats usually givin to mothers at the hospital before they go home. If there is put it on him and keep his diapers loose, but let him air out for a while first, just lay him down on a blanket or a sheet in a warm room with no diaper (shirt, socks is fine as long as his butt gets air. If theres no petrolium jelly go to the store and buy some diaper ointment, preferably desitin, or balmax. But reguardless the babys butt needs air and give him NO JUICE and plenty of water. The rash could be from juice (the acids in it will burn a babys butt if its not ready for it yet), or not changing the baby enough (probably parents doing). You can use baby powder too.

Let his butt soak in some warm water for at least 15 minutes. Afterwards pat him dry and then let him hang out naked for a few minutes. Pure zinc oxide works the best and should be slathered on his dry skin, Balmex also works well and is easier to find. My daughter got diaper rashes like this from food allergies. The first time was when my mother-in-law gave her some strawberry jello, then the next time was when we gave her some pink applesauce (the pink comes from strawberry flavoring). The next time was after she ate some cranberry baby food. We realized she was either allergic to berries or one of the red fool colorings they use in products. A food allergy could also explain why he's had so many dirty diapers in a day. His Mom needs to figure out if there is a food that consistently causes this. It's also possible he developed a yeast infection.

My daughter had loopy diaper rash while she grew to become into tiny that would not go away with conventional diaper rash creams.. we've been prescribed Vusion, which helped it go away in a count of approximately 2 purposes, in spite of if it grew to become into $50.00 a tube, so we used all shall we get out of it! She presently had to be on antibiotics so she had some diarrhea, and we used Johnson & Johnson not greater Rash, and that labored super! very almost like the Vusion! Butt Paste did no longer extremely do too lots for her, on no account tried Desitin.

HE IS PROBABLY HAVING A REACTION TO THE MEDICATION HE IS BEING GIVEN. I WOULD CALLTHE MOTHER AND HAVE HER TELL THE DOCTOR AND HE WILL PROBABLY PRESCRIBE SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Try out bag balm you can find it in any drug store or at a Rite Aid it will be in a green tin can. This is the best stuff for diaper rash. You might have the parents think about what they are feeding him. If he is eating really acidic foods it could be causing the rash. He may also have a bladder infection or a yeast infection. I would say that your best bet would be to let his bum air out. Let him go with out diaper. Also get some bag balm it is better than any of those diaper rash creams. Bag balm is kinda like Vaseline. Get some and it will be gone almost immediately.

If you can get to the store or have someone go for you.....the strongest and most gentle ointment you can get is called Boudreauxs Butt Paste, Its in a yellow tube and is about 4 dollars a tube you can find it in almost any store w/ a baby section. As for wipes.....if its the only thing you have....squirt some baby oil on them and put em in the microwave for about 15-25 seconds. If you have any spare washcloths.....I know this sounds gross but, get a bowl full of warm/hot water w/ a smidge of baby wash in it and use that when you're changing the little ones' diaper, it'll take about 2 or three changes before you see any dramatic change, but that ointment works wonders...and fast!(yes.....Diaper Rash Sucks!) I know my little one is 16 months

He may have a yeast infection. Normally, rashes that don't go away with reasonable treatment like Desitin or air-drying may be yeast, in which case he will have to get a prescription for Nystatin.

His mother needs to take him to the doctor to get a script for Nystatin. In the meantime, keep the diaper off him for as long as you can. Put something under him so he won't crap of pee on the floor/bed. Use cornstarch - it helps absorb moisture. Air is the best remedy. But get the prescription.
