I have both. Tights are more comfortable, but on days when the temp can change, and that's almost always the case, warmers are nice to be able to remove.
Voler is pretty reasonable for warmers. Look for tights on eBay. Good ones are expensive.

In 2005, I went on a 2,500 bike tour from VA to CO. Although I started in mid-May, I experienced very cold, damp weather in the VA mountains with strong winds.

I took a lot of gear with me, including leg warmers and a pair of lightweight, fleece tights purchased at REI. As time went on, I wanted to reduce the overall weight in my panniers. (I had carried way too much stuff!) I decided to send the leg warmers home, and keep the tights for the rest of the tour.

The tights, of course, would cover-up much more of your body area, enabling you to stay much warmer when the weather turns really foul. Also, I think they're considerably more comfortable than leg warmers. The tights you purchase should be made specifically for cycing, of course, with a tight ankle band and zippers at the bottom of each leg. Please note, too, that the tights do not have to be padded. I wore them over cycling shorts, and overall that worked out just fine.

You'll be doing winter mountain biking, so no doubt you'll need the extra protection.

Warmers. They double as tights and if your a roadie their required as proper dress in cool weather. Warmers are a lot easier to use than tights and wear better.

Indiana? Get thermal tights with wind-front.

I have many pairs for various conditions, but in TX I rarely ride belwo 40F or in icy/snowy conditions. Anything down below the mid 40's, I'm wearing full tights. Legwarmers are best for those cool mornings when you know it'll get hot later.

where in the heck do you live? if you live in the northern part of the US like i do ya better dang well get some thermal tights.

if you live in mexico or arizona or the ozarks i wouldnt bother with tights - takes a nasty cold front to do ya in in those locales and u can always take that as a day off ..or just freeze for a day lol

Use of the warmers would give the ability to take them off if needed. Check out this web page and see what you think.
