I cut my finger a few days ago and I cleaned it out, but now it is very sore and infected. Does anyone on here have a home remedy that will pull out the infection quickly?? I have been putting over the counter antibiotic ointments on it, but they aren't working that great. I am trying to avoid going to the doctor if at all possible. I would appreciate any ideas you may have. Thanks!!!

You've had some good suggestions. The soaking in sea salt is only for awhile to help loosen the area for pus, if you have any. Or to help dry it out. After an initial soak, let it dry well. You want to keep it dry now except for flushing it 2-3 X's daily with hydrogen peroxide. Then again let it dry. Then put the neosporin on or aloe vera, make sure the aloe vera is clean too, and with CLEAN hands, rub it in gently. If the cut isn't real deep, let it get as much air as possible, reminding you to clean it often. Sometimes covering it with bandages gives it a moist bacteria breeding ground. Cover it when you'll be doing things that will rub it or if you need to use that finger. Then let it air dry again. Like when you go to bed or when you're sitting around and not using it.

Keep it clean, clean, clean and dry, dry, dry!!!. Cover it up when you bathe and take showers. Use something like a clean baggie over it and a rubber band at the base of your finger to keep water out.

If you don't show a remarkable difference in a couple days, GO to the Dr. Don't fool around with it. It could be dangerous from infection.

P.S. Aloe vera as mentioned can be very beneficial after it's clean. Again, let it dry, always have it dry before covering it up.

Hi!
Are you sure it's infected? A cut will become red and a little swollen when it starts to heal. It's part of the body's defense system. And it's always sore.

If it hurts more than your usual cuts, if it oozes some yellowish liquid, if it throbs (like a pulsating pain) you should have someone look into it. Your pharmacist is trained in first aid, why don't you have him or her take a peek, they can evaluate the state of your wound and you can then decide. And it's free!

If you are looking for home remedies, you should always have Calendula and Echinacea in the form of Mother Tincture in your First Aid Kit.

Calendula helps wounds heal much faster than any other remedy. Make sure you clean out your wound with the Echinacea first. Echinacea will clean the wound and has an antibiotic effect to kill bacteria.
Once you have done that, put a few drops of Calendula. Calendula helps your wound to close and heal quicker than any other herb!

Keep on taking the Echinacea (about 15 drops straight out of the bottle is better but if you can't, take it in a bit of water or juice) for several days just to be on the safe side. It exists in capsule or pill form but the mother tincture is the most effective. As Jimmyiiix said, it helps fight infection by boosting your immune system.

If you're stuck and have nothing around, a bit of clorox or Javel (depending on where you live) diluted in water will help also but I would use it as a very last resort.

clean it- clean it - clean it... with an antibacterial soap. And/Or put Hydrogen peroxide on it. Also, change the badage often. Take the old bandage off. Wash it very well. Let it air dry a while. Put the new ointment on and the new bandage. Also, I find rubbing the ointment in works better that just squeezing some on the cut. Sometimes when you don't clean it well, you can leave traces of the infection behind. Good Luck! Let me know.

I was just passing through....don't listen to the girl that said soak it in water...all moist areas do is INVITE germs and bacteria to the infected site. Have you gone to the dr with a bad cut and they say keep dry for 5 days or whatever?!?! If it's that bad, you may need to go to the dr. If the OTC stuff isn't working, nothing but an antibiotic will! good luck and i hope you feel better!

OTC antibiotic ointments are weal amd dont work for heavier infections, theyre only good for preventing infections or minor knicks and scratches that are a little sore. if it looks really bad go to the doctor and get an antibiotic.

the herbal remedy "Echinacea" is a help in fighting infections (by strengthening the immune system the body has, for fighting infections). In the fighting stage, take 3 per day. Afterward take 1 or 2 per day to prevent. It comes from an American plant that
the Indians took in the winter to prevent colds. (i.e. it fights virus).
The plant is purple and resembles daisies. They are growing it
nowadays as a decoration plant. It is pretty.

I DONT KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE BUT IF YOU LIVE SOMEWHERE AROUND CALIFORNIA OR ARIZONIA THEY HAVE A LOT OF ALOE VERA PLANTS. WHEN I LIVED OUT WEST MY DAUGHTER USE TO FALL DOWN AND SKIN HERSELF UP A LOT. I ALWAYS SNIPPED A PIECE OF ALOE VERA OFF THE PLANT AND RUBBED THE INSIDE JUICE RIGHT ON THE WOUND. IT WORKS GREAT.
