I'll agree that the Taurus PT1911 has merit. But I've heard that not all aftermarket parts for the 1911 will fit the Taurus pistol. It has something to do with their internal safety (the thing that uses the cuff key). So check before you buy. But if you're thinking American production (and I'm not knocking Taurus, I love them, own a couple myself, great warranty service), take a look at the single stack LDA (light double action) from Para-Ordance or a basic Springfield Armory 1911. Also, I know they're kind of pricey, but you can't go wrong with the original Colt. As for S&W, while their pistol might be wonderful (the only real difference being that external ejector, which gives you a loaded chamber indicator), I just can't bring myself to buy one. I can't see myself getting a Ford Camaro or a Chevy Mustang...so I can't bring myself to buy a S&W 1911.

Don't know what this has to do with politics, unless you're planning to buy before Ted Kennedy, Charles Schumer, Dianne Feinstien, Barbara Boxer, and Hillary Clinton outlaw all legal firearms in this country.
Take a look at the new Taurus PT1911, and remember that Taurus of Brazil is the firm that offered to arm our airline pilots for FREE after 9/11. A good neighbor, even though we didn't take them up on the offer.
