I always make hot tea in the coffee maker. I just put the tea bags in where the coffee goes (with no filter) and let it run through. If I want it stronger after it brews I take the bags and put them in the hot tea in the pot for a bit and then remove them. This way you can make a few cups at a time and it stays hot in the coffee maker ...

Everyone I know in Alabama brews their tea to make iced tea in their coffee makers.Just put 8 tea bags per full pot of water or 1 family size tea bag,no need to use a filter unless you are using loose tea.Make sure you wash your filter basket and coffee pot really good before making coffee again.

I've done it before...it won't ruin your coffee pot. Put water in like you normally do and I put about 3-4 tea bags in with no filter. As far as the iced tea maker brewing really hot tea...I don't know. I've either made sun tea, boiled water on my stove or did the coffee pot thing. Good luck!

Why don't you try making tea the Chinese way. It's much easier,
cheaper and healthier to drink. Here is the simple way to do:-
1. First, buy some good quality Chinese tea in any Chinese tea
shop in china-town. (Preferably go for the green tea type)
2. Boil some hot water in a glass canister. Then take out some
green tea leaves with your first 2 fingers and thumb and put
it in a small tea pot. Pour some hot water into the pot to
rinse the leaves quickly and pour it out through the spout.
3. Then again pour hot water into the pot to fill up near the top
and leave it for 2 minutes. Quickly pour out completely the
hot tea through its spout over a stainless steel drainer/filter
into a glass jar and to serve the hot tea by pouring it into
several small Chinese tea cups.
4. Then drink the hot tea by sipping it from the cups. It's
very refreshing and healthy to drink.

Brew the coffee maker with only water (no tea or filters) and then put tea bags in the coffee pot after it finishes dripping. That would be my suggestion.
