Your theory on love is only true if God doesn't exist. You can't purport to define love scientifically without factoring in God, the creator of love, and then apply the scientific, Godless definition to God.

I see a conflict of terms in your question, because you are talking about God the Creator of all things (unless I'm mistaken) but at the same time you are citing the "process of natural selection" which is a tenet of evolution. If God is the true creator, then there is no evolution.
The only reliable source of information we have concerning the one true and living God is the ancient scriptures of the Holy Bible. Everything else is questionable. The Bible does not in any way substantiate evolution, or love as a means of "purifying the gene pool."
Love is a characteristic of the divine nature. It is part of what separates us from the animal kingdom. God created us in His image and likeness. The Bible is very clear about that. Therefore, we are not animals. Animals can display affection, but that is not necessarily the same thing as love. Jesus Christ said, "No man has a greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
Romans 5:7&8 says this, "Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
God created us to be like Him. That has always been His aim and His desire. When Adam & Eve rebelled against Him in the garden, they put all of us on a road that led away from God. We have been suffering for that decision ever since. God because of His great love for us, sent His Son to die in our place so that we could come back to Him. This is the gospel message.
In Christ's death on the cross, we see not only the great price being paid for our sins, but also the greatest example of love that has ever been known. Someone said that "love" is a verb. I believe it.
I don't know that God NEEDS to love, but the Bible says that He IS love. It is essential to His nature to love us. That's what He likes to do. In the times of the Old Testament, there was a need for His wrath and holy sense of judgment to be appeased. But now that Jesus Christ has appeased that wrath, and satisfied that holy requirement for justice, we are now able to receive the abundant love and grace that He has for us. This is something that is real and it can be experienced in this life, before death.

I don't believe love is a survival mechanism enhanced by natural selection. Look at women who feel love for their abusers--clearly it is not in their best interest of survival. Even though we women do sometimes eventually find the strength to leave such relationships, very often we continue to love these men. There must be something more to it than that!

Your looking at God in a box and using an argument using the beliefs of others who have put God in there Box.
I think God is love. God is simply beyond opposites beyond duality.I cannot know if that's true God transcends human thought. I can only go with what I feel. If you want to talk about the way the three major religions have placed God in a Box. Then we can say that the Garden is the Metaphor. The garden is when we existed beyond duality. When we left the garden in that wonderful tale we left paradise and now we exist in a world of opposites a world with Good and bad. A world that needs judgment. So we mistakenly make myths with a God that judges. Of course all of it has nothing to do with God who transcends human ability to understand him.
I feel that God is Love he/she (there I go placing him in human terms) he is only good sin is when we are not tapped into love.
You feel Love is a survival mechanism I feel love is our trancever to God. Whatever it is love is good. THERE I go again putting judgment on things. I just cant help it my brain has so many lobes.

Love is much more than a "survival mechanism". In many cases love may decrease our chances of survival.
God doesn't "need" anything.
God loves because that is His nature. It flows from Him. It is a "property" of God in the same way that He is a Spirit and He is Light, etc...

The Bible says in 1 John that God is love. He loves because it is his very nature to do so. Everything that God does is, therefore, love. He creates from love and he destroys with love. God never ends anything on a negative note because he is love, hence everything that he does is positive. We may not look at it that way, but that is because we are finite in our vision and cannot see the whole plan.

very intriguing philosophical question. I don't think love is all about protection, though. I love my husband, but he doesn't need a lot of protecting physically or emotionally. But the basic question of "why", I find very thought provoking. I don't know why. But I think if He didn't, we would't either, so it would be irrelevent. I probably didn't answer your question at all, I'm sorry, but I just wanted to say thank you for the food for thought. I am going to have to chew on this one for a long time.

According to the Laws of Natural selection by Darwin, It is survival of the Fittest, there is no right or wrong, Might makes right and the weak die off to make room for the strong.

Your first questions was "Why would God need to love if He exist forever?".
God does not NEED to love, God IS love.
Humans NEED to love, so we learn from Love (GOD) HOW to love!
God was "alone", without a creature to worship Him, but not "vulnerable".
Vulnerability should not be a prerequisite to loneliness. If it is, you are in danger of the selected cure.
Loneliness should be a prerequisite to worship! There is nothing more satiating that worship when there are no distractions (for lack of a better word). When you are alone and there is nothing but YOU and HIM in your worship. Makes one capable of being alone, but not lonely!
Be blessed!

It is part of His nature as is His justice, holiness, goodness, truthfulness, and so on. Our ability to love is a reflection of that part of His nature (albeit an imperfect reflection). The Bible doesn't explain "why" He is all these things--only that He is.
