Circumstances may force us to get married at city hall. Are there any ways that we could make this day beautiful and memorable?

I just got married this past saturday by a justice of the peace. He came right to our house and married us. Not all of them will do that. I loved it. After that we had a beautiful wedding reception in our back yard. We had tons of food , music, beer and alcohol and a beautiful wedding cake. Our wedding turned out ten times better then I could have ever dreamed and I wouldn't trade last saturday for the world. What ever you choose to do will be special. Good luck and congratulations. One more quick thing we rented a tent tables and the chairs and hung white christmas lights all along our tent. when it got dark we lit the lights and all the tables had candles on then and it was beautiful. It will be what you make of it.

There are always ways to make your wedding day special! For starters just because you are going to the J.O.P. doesn't mean you can't dress up. Get you hair, and nails and of course a nice outfit. Then sit down and write your own vows. Then you can have a few people (parents and best friends) come with you as witnesses if you wish. Or if you wanted to it isn't that much more you could have an outdoor wedding or a very small indoor wedding with your pastor from your church.

After the J.O.P you could always do a reception in your backyard and have a BBQ and ask people to bring covered dish!! Just have a good time.

My mom got married at city hall. She wore a nice cream colored pantsuit- her husband wore the same colors. The only ones in attendance were my siblings and i, her mom and the j.o.p. She has a very simple, but pretty bouquet of flowers. After the ceremony, we went outside and took pictures on the beautiful lawn outside of the courthouse.

Shortly thereafter we went out to eat as a group at a very nice little restaurant. The owners had decorated an entire area for my mom and her husband. It was so nice! Just like how one would decorate a reception hall. She opened gifts and then we all went to the lake for a boat ride. It was so lovely!

The more intimate the better i think in terms of memories!

Oh Yeah!!!
Yes you can, I thought that my husband and I were going to have to do the same thing rather, that is what I wanted because of funds but, of course our families took over and we ended up with a sort of big wedding. Anyway I wanted to make our wedding special even if it was at city hall so what we decided to do was write our own vows to each other and we read them to each other, that will make it special where ever or even how ever you all get married, Best Wishes and have a grrrrreat life together.....

It's your wedding, is that not special enough? Only in few societies is the actual ceremony of two souls coming together celebrated like it is is in "christian" society like America. Even then the actual ceremony is small and only attended by close family and friends. It is the reception, where all of your friends and family receive you as a couple. I don't know your circumstances, are one of you going to jail or being deported? Maybe it's money, who knows or even cares outside your locale. What is important is the fact that you and your partner already share something special and even without the paper the judge gives you, the two of you were married a long time ago.

Well the city hall type of wedding is tough to do alot of things, so I would plan on having a nice reception. You could have a family/friends party to get help on planning your reception.

Type in your search engine your city state & wedding officiant. There should be a few that pop up. They can come to wherever you are; maybe a park, museum, pier. You can have a beautiful setting for your wedding. Some officiants even have an area in their home that would lend itself to a small wedding.

If you need help give me a shout via e-mail.

in russia this is the norm.
they dress up.
and go on a tour of the city just the two of them.

also --there's a book called bridal bargains --if you want to have a reception the cheapest is a desserts reception at say 2pm. you could have wedding cake and other desserts and coffee and tea and champagne. decorate with white christmas lights. . . you could have super cheap invitations of the single panel with black ink from sears. . . (like $60?)cheapest favor I've seen is jordan almonds in tulle. (almonds $5 for a bag and tulle like $3 for 50 circles. ribbon for $1.) cd burned with music for ceremony and reception, programs created on word program then reduced down on copiers onto one sheet of nice paper and folded in half like a book ($15 at kinkos) and decorated on front and back with embossing: (stamp, ink, powder and tool: $40.)

hmm... could you maybe do it in your backyard?

My mom did this 2 summers ago. It was really nice. We had both the ceremony and reception there.
