A promise to be engaged and married one day. More than anything a symbol that you are committed to that person. My (now) husband gave me one when I was 19 and we married when I was 21. I was not ready for engagment at 19, so the promise ring was great! He gave it to me on Christmas Eve. We're married now, and everything is great!

1) A promise ring is a pre-engagement ring. It is a commitment to that person, pretty much for the rest of your life.
2) Promise rings are the cheap way out on an engagement ring. If you cannot afford, or are not ready for, an engagement ring, why not just wait until the time is right? Just purchase a nice gift rather than attaching such importance to it.
3) Seriously, if you don't know what it is, you probably aren't ready for it.

A promise ring is a ring that means that you are "promised". Promised is sort of like engaged, but not as committed as engaged. It's sort of a promise to be engaged.
You can present it to your girlfriend in whatever way you feel would be appropriate.
(Personally, I don't get the whole concept. I mean, if you want to be engaged and make a committment, isn't that the same as being engaged?)

Generally, a promise ring is called an engagement ring and it is only given by the man to his girlfriend if he is sure that he's gonna marry that girl. In short, the moment the man gives the engagement ring to his girlfriend, and she accepts it, it means that they are engaged to be married someday. It is a form of commitment between these two persons about their true love for each other.

A promise ring is when a guy is letting his girlfriend know he is commited to her. That one day he promises to get engaged and marry her. It is a step before engagement. Some can be diamond rings. I was given a promise ring but I didnt choose a diamond. I had a blue stone ring.
My husband actually left me clues around the house to find it. It was so fun and then he put it on my finger and promised me one day he would ask me to marry him... (we are now happily married)

A promise ring is a promise to ask her to marry you someday. I would give it to her on a romantic evening. Treat it like an engagement ring just with no proposal.
Or do like my boyfriend did beacuse he can't be serious, he told me it was a promise to be with me another year!!! Well it's been 12 years and were still together (and no were not married)

A promise ring means you want to marry her. Take her to a romantic dinner and give it to her then. OR, give it to her after you get home or alone somewhere.
