My friend wants to buy a 1992 Chevy S10 for 400 dollars. It has about 130,000 miles on it. The body has plenty of character, I.E. rust...the driver door is out of allignment, it currently has a dead battery and has been parked for about 8 months. The owner has made a lot of repairs on it, and replaced things. Do you guys out there think this is a good buy? He doesn't have a lot of money to spend on making any repairs, so what are the chances of it being dependable?! Thanks for the answers!

It's going to be a money pit.If the car had been maintained the mileage isn't that bad,but from the description you give it hasn't.If he is mechanically inclined and has time he could work on it as a project, but my guess would be that he will run out of money and ambition well before it's finished. It sounds like the previous owner did.He will be better off trying to save a little more money and buy a car that is ready to drive safely.

that sounds like a great project car, but it will be a money pit and it will not be a daily driver for probably less thatn another 300 to 500 dollars.

so depending on the funds. i wouldn't pay 400 hundred for it

offer them a hundred and go from there

chances are very good he will spend most of his time and money working on a vehicle that he may never drive because it is sitting in a parking lot with a dead battery.

He should charge up the battery and take the car to his mechanic for a checkup... His mechanic will be able to give him an idea how much it'll cost to get the car moving again....
