i have 2 curling tongs, a small thin one with spiral guides around it for little small curls, and a big thick one for big curls or waves... the small one works no problam... but when i use the big one.. no matter how long i keep my hair on it and how much hairspray i use... my hair just falls right back straight! i really want nice gorgous curls & waves and i just don't understand why its not working! ive heard other people say the same thing about big barrel curling tongs not working for them, so its nothing to do with the brand or anything, and the tempeture is just as hot as the small tongs, so i just dont understand why it dosnt curl my hair!!!! is there some sort of special tecnique for doing it... but ive read the instructions and im doing it perfectly! help please! thanks!

Make sure your hair is completely dry - and not still slightly damp from bathing. If there is moisture, and your hair is hard to curl - it won't work and will stay straight.
A styling spray/gel applied to dry hair before curling can help - the downside is that stiff/sticky texture your hair gets from it - not to mention the damage caused from both the heat and alcohol in the product.
Try getting a permanent - then use mousse along with the curling iron to add fresh curl and bounce to your hairdo daily.

Try this - damp hair, thin wisps of hair curled into the curling iron. The thinner the quantity of hair, the more it might work. But don't use spray at the start, try dampening your hair first with water before you curl. If that doesn't work, maybe huge barrel curlers are indeed useless.

the big barrel curling tongs are for mostly for adding body only and it will not make it curly
