This is the way I make it:
Brown a pound of hamburger (if you want a lot of meat then use 1 1/2 to 2 pounds)
Cook lasagna noodles in water until soft
Add spagetti sauce to cooked hamburger (I usually use the canned and I only put in 3/4--but again it is to your taste)
Use either a rectangle pyrex pan (for a family) or a square pyrex pan (for 2 people) and layer the ingredients like this:
noodles (cover the bottom--sometimes you have to cut them in half)
hamburger (half of what you cooked)
Cottage Cheese (just a few blobs and spread then around to make a thin layer and this is optional--I didn't like it as a kid, but do now)
Shredded Cheese (a very fine layer--my mom used Cheddar and Motzerella, but I usually buy the preshredded stuff)
Noodles (another layer)
Hamburger (the rest)
Cheese (cover the top so you don't see any of the meat)
Then you cook it in the oven at 350 degrees until the cheese is melted (usually takes about 10 minutes, but keep a close eye on it the first time)
You will need:
lasagna noodles (usually about 6-7)
hamburger (1-2 pounds)
Cottage Cheese (optional)
Shredded Cheese
Spagetti Sauce (you can try different flavors too--my favorite is Garlic and Herb)
My suggestion (no matter whos recipe you use) is that you try it the first time and then change it to fit how you like it (more or less meat--maybe some peppers, etc.)
Good Luck!!

Lasagna
4 cups of tomato or meat sauce, your choice
1 - 1 1/2 pounds lasagna noodles
3 eggs
1 1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese
32 oz. ricotta cheese
2 1/2 lb. Mozzarella cheese
A pinch of dried oregano, thyme, and basil
salt & pepper, to taste
Olive oil to coat the pans
PREP WORK Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and if you are using standard lasagna noodles, bring a pot of water to boil to cook them.
HOW TO MAKE AT HOMEIn a large bowl, mix together the eggs, parmesan cheese, and ricotta cheese and season with salt, pepper, and spices.
Lightly coat the bottom of each pan with oil ( I like to use spray olive oil for this job) and then add a little sauce to coat the bottoms. This is especially important if you are using the no-boil noodles because the sauce will help them cook.
There are no hard and fast rules about the order you add ingredients, but it's basically adding a layer of pasta, some of the ricotta cheese mixture, more sauce, another layer of pasta, some mozzarella cheese, some more ricotta cheese mixture, more sauce and so on until you run out of ingredients.
The ingredients will settle a little bit when you bake the lasagna so build right to the top. Make sure you finish with sauce and if you have any left over, save it for when you are serving.
Cover each pan with some aluminum foil and bake for about 35 to 45 minutes until the center of the lasagna is hot, the cheese is melted, the edges are crisp, and your kitchen smells heavenly.
If you decide to eat the lasagna that day, make sure to let it sit for a least 15 minutes to let the flavors meld. Enjoy!

If you want a good recipe, check out Emeril's 1-2-3 Lasagna on FoodNetwork.com. See link below. You can also do a search for lasagna on the website, but this is the only one I've tried.

1 jar of ragu sauce
1 lb ground beef (depending on how much meat you want)
1 green bell pepper
1 yellow or red bell pepper
1 container of mushrooms. large or small. usually small. precut mushrooms are fine too
1. can of tomatos. Italian style
2 . tbls minced garlic
cook meat in a separate skillet. combine other ingredients in large pot and cook slowly. when meat is cooked all the way add to pot. cook for about 1hr slowly don't let it stick.
Taste
you don't have to cook you noodles. place one layer of noodles on bottom of dish then one layer of sauce and a layer of Mozerella cheese. Repeat until dish is full. make sure your last layer is the cheese on top. cover and cook on 300 about an hr.
Bang wonderful lasagna.
*when cooking your vegies you want to cut up you peppers in small chunks to spread the flavor. Salt and pepper to taste if you want. i don't.
** the juice from your sauce will cook the noodles.
*** I also use an aluminum throw away pan. it's deeper.
