If you want to transfer everything, there are specialized programs that do that. One of the best is MoveMe, which costs about $40 and lets you migrate all of your installed programs, data, pictures etc from the old system to the new either over a network or through a cable. You install it on both machines, tell it which one is the new & old computer, and let it run overnight (it takes a few hours) I suggest you take a look at it- if you're still not comfortable, let a pro do it...

If the old computer is still working you can put them both on the same network and drag the files using Explorer.

If you have the program PC RELOCATOR (about $20) it is made to do that type of dump of all the stuff from old computer in a few minutes and comes with a cable to use during the transfer.

It's best to install your operating system and not try to copy the entire hard drive as if the OS will work there. But once you got the OS installed, get an external hard drive case. You can then plug it in though the usb port and copy over whatever you want. And the hard drive unit will make an excellant archival tool.

If you are talking about transferring the data to the new computer, you can do it yourself. If you want to install the old hard drive in the new computer, you need to be at least a little bit handy, but it is not very difficult.

Transferring data over a network or burning a CD is no problem. The installed software you have on your new machine will, more than likely, require you to spend an hour or two or four reinstalling.

Sounds like you've already answered your own question. Let them do it and if it messes up take it back.
