The truck is a specialty truck providing fuel and water for an asphalt crew. The truck is also a commercial vehicle. Is there a cut off, in gallons, that placarding is required and also an endorsement.

All vehicals carring fuel to be TRANSPORTED has to be placared!! That means that if your carring fuel that is not intended for the vehical carring it it must be placared.. Any thing over 50 lbs must be placared.

Hasmat plackards need only be in suppy vehicles like tankers etc. If the truck is a diesel powered truck and the fuel tank is 50 gal no plackard is required..Look at some big rigs and you'll note that they have two large fuel tanks that top off at about 300 gallons and they don't need plackarding

Call your local Secretary of State Office and ask them this question. They would have the EXACT answer you are looking for!

I would say IMMEDIATELY BEFORE driving ANY hazardous material you would need a Hazmat endorsement. I am sure you would also need to have a Tanker endorsement as well.
