Yes.

This site tells you about Purina

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralston_Purina_Company

This site lists many companies that run tests on animals and some statistics on it. It also lists companies that do not test.

cpinatsi,
This is way more than feeding the animals and seeing if they like the food or not. This is cruelty and this is why I do not buy or support these brands.

Hills Pet Nutrition (Hills scientific and Hills Prescription diets):
-Fed puppies a special diet as part of a 5-week trial. Their claws, testes and teeth were removed for zinc analysis . "It is believed the dogs then died or were put down"

IAMS company An experiment commissioned by IAMS involved inducing kidney failure in 28 female kittens. Each then had a kidney removed. The surgery killed two of the kittens, others suffered weight loss and severe vomiting, then were put down by lethal injection

IAMS (again) 15 beagles had their bowels cut out for analysis before being destroyed.

These experimenters don t place a bowl of food down for pets to taste..they torture them! Drano testing , Lysol testing, makeup testing, etc., etc., etc., even pet food testing on animals!
There are products that do not involve animal testing. If you truly love animals you ll take the time to learn what products do this horrible torture to animals. God forgive them!

I've experienced this first hand. As a consultant for a fledgling equine feed company, we are aware of the Kentucky killing barns. Our product is natural and we feed the animals and let the results speak for itself. We do not inject the animals with vile diseases as some players do..

We were advised by a Vet not to use Purina, but to use Walmart brand food..........The advice cost us a breeding season with our dogs. Thier hair fell out, and even though some breeding took place, there were no puppies.
We switched back to Purina's best, and are expecting 4 litters.
Now using Purina 1, both varieties. As far as cruelty,
I never heard of that about Purina

I think so.

I would advise trying to switch your cats to home-made recipes. For more info, check out www.catnutrition.org

That depends on if you think it is cruel to feed horses to dogs.

Well, with pet food, I suppose animal testing should mean feeding them to see if they like the food.It doesn't sound too bad. I don't know about veterinary formula food, though.
