Depends upon the pipe and the method of joining.
Copper pipe which has a soldered joint is considered to have a joint weaker than the pipe. Solder is a lead-tin or silver-tin allow which is brittle.
Iron pipe with screw on joints, usually has Teflon tape at the joint and if screwed on tightly is very leak-proof and mechanically sound.
Plastic pipe usually uses a solvent to melt the pipe and joint fitting. The solvent evaporates leaving a joint which has almost identical properties as the plastic used in the pipe.
Glass "pipe" used in laboratories can use ground-glass fittings or Teflon or even melted glass on glass. This is the most variable of any joint.

Different types of pipe joints?
1.welded joint-butt weld,socket weld.
2.welded flange joints-as per ASTM/BS/IS/JIS/DIN STANDARD using a different types of gaskets(CAF/spiral wound-different moc).w.r.to pressure rating
3.expansion joints-especially in hot services like steam,reboilers....
4.GLUED joint-pvc pipe joints - uses a solvent to fill the gap and make leakproof joints as in case of water services.
5. cemented joints-gutter line,road crosser,irrigation aplication.
6. most corrosive services uses pph/p.p./hdpe pipe lines which can be jointed by hot plate use and plastic welding.
7.screwed joints: like union joints,coupling joints,threaded flange joints -can be sealed using ptfe tape rolls and using gasket shellac.
8.Brazed joints-for refrigeration piping in liquid line for the moc like copper,brass.......

yeah, probably the best way to go under your particular circumstances. just remember to keep your cylinder nodes clean when you're working under pressure.
