My 4 yr old daughter is having corrective eye surgery on 9-20. She has Strabismus and Amblyopia. For you who have experienced this, What should we expect after we bring her home? I know what all the dr has told us, I have the printouts on the surgery and what to expect.. but I would like to know first hand from others who have been thru it. Were they in much pain? Did they complain of light hurting their eyes? Did they try to rub them alot? ANYTHING would help. She is having the surgery on both eyes, not just one. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.

My kid hasn't had this, but I underwent the surgery myself as a teenager and for about two weeks after my eyes felt like they were packed with sand (from the sutures). All I could think was "jeez, how do parents keep their kids from constantly rubbing their eyes after this?". Maybe it's easier on children, I dunno. Coldpacks wrapped in soft towels over my eyes helped, as did just being really diligent about not rubbing or touching them.
Hope this'll help with your kid!

They should give her eye patches to keep her from doing that.
