IgM antibodies usually indicate current infection and IgG indicates past infection.

Please see the webpages for more details on Toxoplasmosis.
Serologic tests are available to determine who has become infected with toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasma-specific IgG antibodies are detectable1–3 weeks after infection and remain detectable for the life of the individual. Toxoplasma-specific IgM antibodies are also detectable 1–3weeks after infection but generally decline to nil by 1 year after infection. The presence of both IgG and IgM is evidence for infection within the last year. The presence of IgG antibody without IgM is considered indicative of past infection. The test is conducted to diagnose clinical cerebral toxoplasmosis and included:
1. Clinical features of Central Nervous System involvement.
2. Raised anti-toxoplasma IgG titers.
3. Typical CNS lesions on CT Scan/MRI.
There will be dramatic clinical response to the treatment within 3-5 days of anti-Toxoplasma therapy
