I had some passports done recently, and if I remember rightly, the image size is 35x45 mm, but beware the rules about what the picture must be like, plain light background, nothing obstructing the eyes (hair, glasses etc.), mouth closed. I can't remember them all, I'd recommend you go to the Post Office and get the leaflet, it gives all the details and will save you effort and delay. Unfortunately, the information doesn't seem to be available on the Passport Agency's website.
