WHOA - Do Not Fool Yourself, You NEED Step By Step Information. Basically, You need to backup all of your data files, Pictures, and anything else you want to save. The Back up helps in case something goes wrong during the New Install. The easiest way to perform the backup is to simply copy the data folders to another disk or computer.

Only Then "Uninstall Windows". Now, uninstalling windows Xp doesn't delete your "all your data files", HOWEVER, most programs that you have installed probably WILL NOT WORK. To fix this, just reinstall them again. If you have created any Documents or Files, they should still be stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\

When you reinstall an operating system, or copy or delete partitions, you may end up with Boot.ini entries for partitions that aren't really there.
