Jeez... you don't have to convince him that he should be the best... who said he has to be the best...?
Of cause he finds it embarrasing... you probably did before you did it for the first time...!
If you say that he could turn out to be the best it makes him feel as if you will always be comparing him to your past lovers.
Give the guy a break....he's probably not worried about trying to have sex... he's nervous about not doing it right and failing in front of you and therefore looking stupid...
Anyway... why don't you turn him on by masturbating for him or going down on him...

just point out that we were all in his position at some time or other and we were all as embarrassed and shy as he is now when it came to our first time. Its never easy - particularly when you first have sex with someone that has experience.
You need to talk to him - let him know that it doesnt bother you if things dont go well the first time - express the concern you felt on your first time - and let him know that you're willing to keep practising till it becomes perfect! Just be understanding with him - it is tough - particularly when its the girl is more experienced than the guy!

Maybe this will help:
Intelligently and lovingly educate him on"Safe Sex" to begin with maybe he's having trepidations about the whole act. If you can assure him that you are not some "Bad" girl trying to corrupt him he may fall in line with you. Hope it helps.

Take your time to get everything right ... relaxing surroundings (not the back of the car!), nice atmosphere, soft lights/music ... Talk to him all the time and encourage him ... don't compare him or criticise him ... tell/show him what you like and ask him what he wants you to do too
