Final Throes? Are they? Mr Cheney says they are. ( Said it on 30th May 2005 )

So why are the Insurgents still hurting our soldiers? How long does the "Last Throes" last?

No. According to commanding generals, Iraq is on the verge of all out civil war. Some consider the civil war to have already started.

History shows us that wars are often bloodiest right before they're over. While we may still lose this war, I believe the odds are that we will win it. There is no answer to how long death throes can last. We exterminated two seperate insurgencies in the Philipines. The first one took 8 years. The second lasted 10. I think the one in Iraq will be defeated before Bush leaves office. A lot can happen in two years!
The choice is ours.

No. Mr. Cheney, and anyone else who thinks the resistance to occupation in Iraq will ever disappear need to look at the country's history. Or watch 'Lawrence of Arabia," if they haven't the stamina to do any real research. If the Iraqis don't want us there, they'll never stop fighting until we leave, no matter how long it take or how bloody it gets. They've been occupied before, and they know what they're up against. We're the ones fooling ourselves, that we can ever win them over into acceptance of our permanent presence on their soil.

Why always take statements out of context? Insurgency in Iraq WILL probably decline as some sort of legitimate government of the Iraqi people by a democratic process becomes possible. That's what Americans are there to accomplish.

But bank on some sort of terrorism to be with us somewhere in the world, and possibly in America, for the rest of your lifetime.

It's just a few bad apples. We're turning the corner. The capture / death of (insert Arab name here) means the insurgency is leaderless and on the way out. We will be greeted as liberators and heroes. Bring it on!

"last throes" would indicate that they are almost defeated. The quote is from almost a year-and-a-half ago, so I'd put this one in the "no" category.

This ranks up there with the "we're turning a corner" sound-byte we've been hearing for 2 years now. If we keep turning corners, we start going in circles.
