Kurt - I am a beliver in little victories. Try to get some work - even a labor job to get the cashflow in the right direction. There is work out there, especially in retail and services. Once you're making money again, talk to your peers or better yet, the more financially successful people you meet. Ask them their secret - they'll be open more often than not. I bet opportunities will come your way before you know it.

Good luck.

I'm not sure how much of this applies to you, but here's my thoughts in general:

1) stay off drugs. Limit your alcohol intake to just occasionally.

2) stay in school, study hard, get a good education

3) Get a good job, work hard at it, try to excel at it.

4) Don't worry about having the newest, sexiest, biggest, or flashiest car. A used Honda Accord will probably suit you much better than a new Cadillac or Lexus or Benz.

5) Ditto that for your house. Yes,unlike a car, a house will often appreciate in value, but it can also drag you down if you have more than you can afford to pay for or heat or maintain.

6) Use credit cards sparingly. Pay off the balance each month. If you can't pay it off, pay as much as you can. That should be at least 5 times the minimum payment - 10 times is better. If you pay just the minimum payment each month, you'll be saddled with that card debt for many, many years.

7) start saving for retirement early, and make regular contributions each paycheck. Compound interest works best over long time spans.

8) Read the financial books books written by Andrew Tobias, and "The Millionaire Mind", and "The Millionaire Next Door".

Good luck!

The best advice I can give you for when you're established 2as an economics major is in every purchase that you make take into account the OPPORTUNITY COST. That is to say, think of things as what they could possibly be. Instead of thinking of new jeans as a $50 cost....think of them as ten meals. A pack of cigarettes is not $5, its lunch. You will save an unbelievable amount of money this way. Good luck!!!

If you haven't furthered your eduction do whatever you can to do so. I am a waitress (& mom) and I was waiting tables long before I had a family. If you get into a good resturant, you can easilt make 20- 30 bucks an hour. It was something I did part time while in college and it saved my butt from having to live in a car. good luck!

nobody here can help you with that, or anyone else for that matter. You must find your way on your own. There are far more people in other countries in horrible situations that out weight your problems by a long shot. Just Appreciate Life.

Please call this guy. He went from high monetary status to bankruptcy, and has come out of it and doing very well. He is very sound in his advice. At least check out his web site and listen to his show.
