Contrary to popular belieft, alcoholism is not a disease on it's own! It is the effect of an underlying mental condition. It is how a lot of people learn to self medicate an untreated mental illness. Could be depression, anxiety, bipolar, schitzophrenia, adhd, and so on.... Get a good family history of mental illnesses or other alcoholics in your family and get to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Most of these mental illnesses are genetically inherited and don't come out until you are an adult....get checked out to see if you have something that isn't so obvious to you, and see about treatement options. Good luck!!!

I hope this will help. You are making an effort by evening reflecting on your past and the effects it has on today. Often AA meetings are a good way to put the peices together. Either way good luck with your journey and I sincerely hope you find peace

I have seen adult kids of alcoholics suffer from anger. And you know, depression is anger turned inward.Try a group thrapy, you may feel better relating to other people who have very similar feelings to what you experience. And remember, you are your own person, not your parents!

One MAJOR symptom is the need to please everyone. (You know, keep daddy or mommy from being 'mad' at you, etc.) Depression is a side-effect of that; because, of course, you can't please everyone. Someone will be upset whatever you do. Do you see a counselor? It would be good for you - even if you don't want to talk to someone, you might find it helps! Good luck!
