It is interesting how inventive children can be. One of their computer geek friends will tell them how to defeat blocking.
With a router:
Router settings may block the string, "myspace".
Use a Netgear wireless router. Block "myspace" in the router settings and password protect access to the router. This blocks all computers including proxy servers with the word "myspace".
You can not block with anything available within XP settings, why? Users can employ a proxy server to access any URL on the web you attempt to block.
Without the router:
The XP feature to restrict sites only works with specific URL strings. It will not block strings like "myspace".
You can experiment if you like Control Panel/Internet Options/Security/Restricted Sites
Close all windows after making changes and open a new IE to test.
Previously, I password protected an administrative user. This can be defeated easily. My kids are restricted from the administrative account to change settings or load programs. This is not good. They need to learn how to manage their own computer 100%.
People will tell you to set Parental controls. They are too restrictive. Parental control programs can be defeated by downloading Netscape, Modzilla or Firefox browsers.
The router settings finally made a difference and blocked them 100%. They never figured out to reset the router. It is easily defeated too.
Good luck

Katz has a great suggestion, but there are other sites out there that you may not want your teen viewing. I bought McAfee Parental Controls software from Best Buy. This enables you to see what sites your teen is visiting, (it keeps a daily log that you can access only with a password) and it also blocks sites that are not appropriate for his/her age. It also blocks your teen's real name, address, phone number, social security number, etc. etc. from being displayed for public viewing. It really is a great program, and so far my girls haven't been able to go to any sites that are not appropriate. With this program, you can also control the amount of time you want your teen online by setting time limits. If your teen tries to access the internet at 4 a.m., the Parental Controls will send a signal to them, just the same as if you didn't have any internet access.
I hope this is helpful! There are many pedophiles out there who prey on young kids and teens. Good luck to you!

MySpace can be a child luring site. Keep the computer in the family area where you can keep an eye on what your child is doing. Invest in some good software from Best Buy or something.

Instead of only worrying about how to block this site. Why don't you talk with your child about the dangers of being online and meeting people off there. There are other sites out there besides my space. You'll never be able to block them all, and the kids are smart enough now adays to figure out how to get there. They are able to access computers at friends, library and at home. How are you going to protect them there, you can't. You need to talk with your child not just try to keep something away, that just makes it more attractive.

In Internet explorer, click on tools and then on Internet options. Click on the content tab and then on settings. Click on Approved Sites and add http://www.Myspace.com to the list and click Never. You also will want to password protect your settings so your teen cant change those.

If you are networked, you can block the website through the router. Are you networked?
