I have a new puppy and she likes to bite. This isn't painful biting, or angry biting, but I do want to stop the habit before she grows up when biting could cause serious injury.

This is something that all young puppies do, so you're not alone! Your puppy is going to need lots of things she can chew on - get her things of different textures (good for their gums). You don't say how old she is, but if she's teething, her gums hurt and that makes her chew even more. One thing you can do for a teething puppy is wet an old face cloth with cold water, wring it out and freeze it. When frozen give it to your puppy to chew - it helps soothe the gums.

When she bites you, tell her no firmly, pull your hand away and give her a toy to chew on. You have to be very consistent and patient because she's a baby, but she will learn that's not acceptable behaviour. If she persists in biting you, tell her no, give her something to chew on, then ignore her so she learns you're not going to play with her if she bites. She'll catch on!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aMQ6r

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Each time the puppy does this yelp like you are another dog in pain. He or she will understand that this behavior is upsetting you and this normal puppy will begin to learn how to be a good companion. DON'T take the other advice and use a shock collar this could ruin your pup.

Don't let her bite your hands, or any part of your body, because when she grows up she'll bite everyone! Buy her a bone. Puppies need to be constantly chewing or biting something, as babies have to suck... Good luck!

Nipping or play biting is common among young puppys and more common in certan breeds.
I always play with them and if they start to nip I raise my voice and tell them no bite while holding thier muzzle for a short second to keep their attention. You have to hold very softly and only for a second or two and let them free.
It will take time for her to out grow this behavior but if you consistantly tell her no and let her know this upsets you she will learn not to do it.
Good luck.

One thing that you can do that doesn't hurt the puppy is to get a water gun or squirt bottle. Every time he nips or bites, squirt him in the face. He won't like it, but it won't hurt him. Eventually he'll learn to stop.

you've got some great ideas. what i always do with my pups is double what their mother would do to them for the same behavior. when a pup bites their mom, and she doesn't like it, what does she do? she lightly bites their mouth shut. they don't have hands, so the equivalent for us to do is to tap her on the bridge of the nose. i've got a shepherd heeler mix, and you wanna talk about biter!!! it worked for her, as well as many other dogs that i've trained over the last 15 years. good luck and enjoy your little love!!

give her a target for her biting/chewing. Get toys that get her attention, play with your dog and encourage proper mouthing by scolding (not punishing) her. Dog, especially pups, will mouth. Just teach the proper time and place to do it. I do not recomment shock collars, they can cause issues with pups.
