I don't think the cow that gave up its skin so you can have your leather belt, leather wallet and leather shoes did so of its own volition.

The British Army buys LEFTOVER skins from Canadian hunters, the hats last 50 - 100 years.

DailyMail text "Animal rights groups criticised officials for buying the left over skin of black bears from tourist-hunters in Canada

The British Army has spent £321,000 in the last five years on 431 bearskin "caps" at the cost of the tax payer. Last night a spokesman for the MoD said the bear fur trade was a matter for the Canadian government. The MoD has been researching the use of fake fur for bearskin hats for nearly 20 years but has not as yet found one it considers suitable. The standard bearskin of the British Foot Guards is 18 inches tall, weighs one and a half pounds and is made from the fur of the Canadian black bear. Some which are still in use are over 100 years old. The fur of an adult black bear is used to make one complete cap. "

I love these PETA types... I certainly hope that you don't consume any chickens, beef, pork, milk, or eggs. Don't exploit our animal friends by wearing ANY leather, feathers

Ahem... I hate to break this to you but the British Busby (The tall headwear worn by members of the Guards regiments of the British Army) have not been made of Bearskin for many decades (in fact for almost a century). If I were you, I would concentrate my efforts to protect the little creatures of our planet by going after those pesky Scots for their inhumane practises used during the annual Haggis hunting season - they are awfully cruel to those little blighters....

Like most modern army equipment the british busby isn't made out of bear skin anymore - it just cost too much to produce and doesn't do anything good for your reputation - not even if your an army...

what would you have tham wear? flourescent fun fur? The hides come from bears that are killed as nuisance bears enter towns in the spring to raid garbage. There is no shortage of black bears.
