I'm planning to buy sony cybershot DSC H5/B
any one advice me not to? and why? is there a better choice with the same price limit? that's <=usd 500

The only unfortunate thing about Sony is that they market all of their products to be sony-specific - their technology is sort of in a league of its own & it's not always reliable & can get spendy.

I've seen a lot of cybershots returned because they aren't as durable & reliable as other photo brands like canon and nikon.

Another thing to consider is that Sony makes everything from walkmans to televisions. If you're serious about photography, go with a brand that specializes in cameras - this will ensure high quality lenses and appropriate technology.

For about the same price you can probably find a Canon d-60 with a detachable lens with greater zoom.

Your best bet, though is to go to a camera store & test out several different cameras - just go with what feels right.
