Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I understand what you're going through. My dad had it too, and died at 81 in January. I wonder if his new symptoms are because of a side effect of the celexa, or perhaps a combo of the different pills. My dad would not make sense at times. We finally figured out it was because of the increase in the pain meds when he would have bad flare-ups. Have his doctor review all his meds. I do wish you the best and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Experienced the same thing with my dad today. He was 81 last month and last weekend I went to see him (he's in a nursing home) and he hadn't been eating, lying on his bed and not wanting to even go to the dining room, but mostly lucid mentally - he would get the odd dream he had confused with reality but for 81 is/was great. They started him on Celexa (4 days ago) and my son and I went in today and he totally freaked me out. Nothing he said made sense, he was hallucinating (spiders on the floor in his room) and was irritable and kinda cranky, which is not like him. The nurse I spoke to contradicted herself by saying how happy they were that the drug had improved his appetite so much in just 4 days - then in the same breath saying he hasn't been on it long enough to make a difference with his mind. I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that level of dementia doesn't happen overnight...I think it's got to be the drug. Anyone wanna weigh in here?

When your dad was prescribed Celexa did the doctor sit down with your mom and him to explain any side effects of the medication? You need to find out if this drug causes any neurological effects and look at other options for him to get medical treatment if that drug isnt working. Most people fail to read up or listen to their doctors about the side effects of medicine and to find alternative treatments if the medication is causing problems.

I am not sure but I do know that Celexa is bad news period. That stuff made my mom suicidal.
