To answer this Question one must first understand what are the symptoms of the presence of soul. The description of Soul, its nature, qualities, position, transmigration etc are given in great details in Bhagavad Gita.
The Symptom of existence of Soul is Consciousness. Hence all living entity having consciousness have soul. In some living entity this consciousness is covered as in case of plants. But still by its characteristics of taking birth, breathing, growing and then passing away, we can understand that soul is present. All humans, animals, birds, insects, plants, , and even bacteria have soul. One is situated in particular body depending on the deeds and nature acquired.

No animals, insects or plants don't have souls because they are not made in the image of God as we are.

Honestly, I do believe that animals have souls. It is only my personal belief. As for plants it is proven that they respond to "kind words" etc when speaking to them. They don't do well in harsh, angry homes. I believe that everything on this planet has energy which works hand in hand with all of the other elements on this earth. One may not call it "souls" but that is how I prefer to explain it. Everything on this earth that is alive, is valuable.....yes, even a mosquito (although I haven't learned how) LOL

My definition of soul is simply who you are. Which means that animals do have souls, because they are individuals.

I'm sure insects do too, but frankly, I have no interest in getting to know any.

Plants, I'm not sure. I tend to think not, even though they are alive. They're not terribly sentient.
