When stimulated by a nerve, the fiber contracts in length and becomes fatter. It's attached to objects at each end, and the two objects move closer together. This could make your elbow bend or your heart beat. The fiber then relaxes when the stimulus is taken away, and an opposing muscle fiber on the other side of the joint will contract , move the joint the other way and stretch out the first.

Another purpose (if you're a meat eater) is to part of a good steak. Yum!

for strength... of course =) the more your muscles are stronger and tight... that means you have rich muscle tendons and is stronger... able and capable of doing heavy job... this is for now... i may go around the bush... go round in circles... hehehe but i hope i make sense here...
