Every verse I saw said nothing of it, some even appeared to have the word marriage in a different context, as in Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.(Matthew 22:4) Sounds more like its talking of marriage and wedding as a great feast, not a man and woman being joined in "holy matrimony"

Call me crazy, liberal, but not one single person has put an educated post in response to your question. Have you seen anywhere where it says "only" a man and woman? I don't think so...

Matthew 22:1-14 is about the Parable of the Wedding Banquet. A wedding is usually regarded as a celebration. so of course there was a feast. In Genesis, God created man and woman, they were united and become one. For more info about marriage, you can read I Corinthian 7.

In Genesis 2:24 it talks about man leaving his father and his mother and cleaving to his wife. That's the verse most people are thinking about when they say "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!" Of course, when the earth was barely populated, hetero unions would have been necessary for the survival of the species....

(And I must confess I've often wondered why, given the clarity of this verse's instructions, the churches allow women, rather than men, to be "given" in marriage by their families......Nobody seems to have clued in to this widespread flounting of a scriptural edict. Or at least, I've never heard of anyone protesting this common wedding practice of 'giving' the bride away rather than the groom.)

Marriage is a secular institution. If it was all about making vows before God, we wouldn't have married atheists, would we? So while I agree that churches should not have to regognize gay marriage if it goes against their doctrines, the state has no right to decide who anyone commits their life to. So regardless of what the Bible or any other holy book says, the state needs to get their nose out of other people's business.

In the old testament it says a lot of crazy stuff and I believe Jesus changed this.Jesus never spoke about homosexuality, not one single time.
I believe in Jesus and his teachings and He doesn't teach me to hate Gay people,.If I should follow everything in the old testament,I'm not supposed to eat shell fish and pork as well.Seems to me right wing haters again use the bible as an easy excuse to justify their discrimination as they at the time tried to do with slavery and racism.
Let's pray for them but also make very clear Jesus would never tolerate their hatred. It's time the left takes back religion. The main values in Christianity are compassion and forgiveness, that are left values.

The answer to this question are many and varied. It's easily answered but you claim you are a liberal. Therefore you could be presented with all the facts and arguments and nothing would make a difference to someone as close-minded as an American liberal. A priori, you know.

Mark 10:6
"But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'[a] 7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8and the two will become one flesh.'[c] So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

One verse is Matthew 19:5 and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh. KJV

Matthew 13:14.
And yea so shall it be ye poofs with thou tinselly garments of gossamer fair.Give ye self over to poontang coz it's real grouse.Men are to be partners in sport,or in thy vehicular outings, and not in the boudoir you sicko pervert pricks.
I may have paraphrased that a bit.

same crap as always..

they will bust out "the original greek" because they don't consider existing Jewish teachings or writing to be legit, just the books written by men who were influenced by the Saul/Paul guy

who, of course, hated people who loved themselves or other people of like sex and told those that loved as Jesus did there was a special place in hell for them if they contradicted his hatefull teachings of intollerance and new doctrine

I think the original Kabalistic texts go more into marraige or a civil union where it's the people who wed themselves and invite others to the feast to celebrate their commitment and love to each other in unity

but yeah you see Jesus and Paul saying not to do marraige if you can help it, but the irony is most Jewish men, and Jewish teachers were in fact married if they followed tradition

in old testament marraiges looked more like kidnappings and property thefts of stealing wives and sheep in same lot
