The first thing that may help you is to slow down when you write and to write bigger so you can form your letters correctly. If you are unsure of the formation of the letters, buy one of those handwriting workbooks for children. It shows one how to form the letters and gives you lines where to practice. These little inexpensive soft back work books can be found at Walmart. If there is no Walmart in your area, check out some handwriting books from the library or simply practice, practice, practice by looking at someone else's handwriting that you admire. I find the bigger a person writes, allows them to form their letters more completely. Again, SLOW DOWN, \you will eventually pick up speed. I think it is wonderful that you are trying to improve your handwriting. I wish many people would. (I'll work on mine today too!)

We all have different handwriting and there is no right or wrong way to write. But if others have trouble reading it, then you need to ask someone where you're going wrong. Maybe it's too small or squashed. So try writing bigger. But don't worry if it's not perfect.. what you write is more important that the handwriting.

Get a handwritting book from the library and practice, practice, practice!!!! Unfortunately in this day and age of the computer...I fear handwritting skills will be terrible in a few years.... we've become a keyboarding society!

My kids and I have the same problem.

First, type when you can. But what people do not realize is that many teachers to not allow typing anymore, even in high school (too much cut-and-paste from the internet).

So ... to improve your handwriting:

1. Slow down
2. Write SMALLER (makes you work slower)
3. Take small breaks between words to think about what you are writing. This will slow you down (and improve your writing substance).

When you PRACTICE writing, write bigger to form your letters properly. However, in MOST cases, bad hand-writing is not from not KNOWING how to write properly, its from going too fast to write it properly.

How about trying different pens? How about trying writing on better surfaces and practicing. You might try to see if someone can help you if you are an adult. Sometimes this problem happens from the time we are children because we are forced to write with our right hand when we are left handed. I would try talking to a specialist. I wish I knew what kind.
