I live in Charlotte NC. not to far from Durham. NC is a beautiful state. We have hot summers and cold winters. Comfortable springs and autumn seasons. In the summer you can go to the beach for a week or long weekend or take a trip to the mountain for a family picnic and have a beautiful scenery. The mountains are also great to visit in the fall when the leaves are changing. The mountains also have many places to visit like Tweetsie Railroad... if your kids would like to go on a train ride. I was born here and have lived here my whole life. I could never imagine living anywhere else.

I went to high school in Columbia, SC and the kids were REALLY mean! I live now in Fayetteville, NC it is about 45 mins to an hour away from Durham. I think Durham is a dangerous place for kids. Don't you watch the news? Fayetteville is a good place to raise kids. It is not too "city" and not to "country" just the right balance. And it is inexpensive to buy or rent a home.

Columbia is a pretty good place to live, there is always something going on for the family, plus you have a good bit of colleges there, you're also about an hour away from chaleston and about an hour and 45 minutes away from the beach. I worked in Durham and there were a lot of gangs there.

i urge to civilly selection. the known public transportation in Columbia isn't that great. in fact, there have been somewhat some articles approximately how undesirable it extremely is for those that place self belief in it. perhaps it have been given extra constructive interior the final 2 years - yet do no longer wager on it. So, i does no longer decide for Columbia if it is the foremost element - inspite of the incontrovertible fact that i'm prepared to wager it extremely is much less costly than Charlotte ot Durham

NC has very few jobs right now because most of them have closed. If you are planning on working you need to check the job facts first. NC people are generally unfirendly also. SC people have more manners and are easier to get along with.

A friend of mines daughter and family moved down to NC and the only good thing there is the houseing, its very cheap but they make up the difference in the vehicles. Not only do u have to buy your plates like usual but you have to pay a HUGE tax on each vehicle every year! depending on the year of the car is how much you pay and its a lump sum to pay b4 u can get your plates!
Also the jobs while plentiful don't pay very well.
Research the job markets b4 you make the move
