Usually people who want their ashes scattered prefer to have their survivors think of them as part of all of nature rather than in a casket six feet below the ground in a specific place. As you probably know, some people are comforted by the thought that their ashes will become part of nature in a place that was special to them -- a park, farm, lake, woods, or river. Some people just want their ashes scattered anywhere, to become a part of the earth, the air, and the water. It's a comfort to them to think of their remains mingling with the rest of nature.

I think that people scatter ashes of their deceased loved ones in places that the person had a special conection to or love for. I believe that it is simply a symbolic act to make the person a part forever of someplace that they loved.
